Hi guys,

It has come to my attention that for 2003 the 700 Classic will be offered in 8x57. Does anybody know if this rifle has a short or long action?

My guess would be that they would offer it in a long action but the photo on the sales flyer was definitely a short action rifle. Now this could just be a picture of last year's .300 savage. Does anybody know for sure?

John : Most short actions are based on the 308 length case and since the 8mm is longer I would guess it will be a long action, but thats only a guess hope that has been of some help.

I acquired the 2003 classic last week. It is a long action with a 23 inch barrel. I have not shot yet but it looks great. The trigger is about 9 or 10 pounds.

Your 8X57 will be a long action like the 30-06.The 8x57 will do the job all North American game.I have two Remington Classic rifles,one in 222Rem the other in 25-06,I like lines better then the B.D.Ls.

I also have a Classic in the 221 Fireball. It is a sweet rifle! This could get to be a habit.

The 2004 classic is indeed a long action. It also has a 1:9.5 twist just like the 98's.

I picked one up yesterday (I traded a remington 700 ADL Synthetic in 308 for it). I bought the .308 on clearance so I only lost 50 bucks on the trade.

I shot some factory ammo out of it yesterday to make sure that the scope would be on target when load develoment begins in earnest. I shot 2 3-shot groups at 100 yards, with a sight adjustment in between. The first was a little less than an inch the 2d was around 1 1/4". I expect handloads to perform even better.

The stock is nice looking, I may put a synthetic on the rifle though just so the wood one doesn't get scratched up.
