Marlin Papoose Mags
« on: November 07, 2012, 11:51:51 AM »
I have an original Marlin Papoose.  I have been told that the mags. for the Marlin 795 will fit.  Has anyone tried this, or does anyone know?

I don't want to order mags that I can't use.

Also, in looking, I see Papoose mags for "post 1998".  Have they changed them that much?

Thanks,

Ben

To the best of my knoledge, marlin is using two different mags for ALL there rimfire rifles requiring a detachable mag. (One for 17M2/22LR and a second for 17HMR/22MAG) This goes back at least the mid 1970's...

My 880 is the same mag as your Pappoose. In my 1969 vintage 22Mag I am using a brand new nickle 17HMR mag. ;)
Order one for a Marlin 22LR and try it! IF IT DON'T WORK I'LL BUY IT FROM YOU!  ;)

I'm gonna' have to just give one a try I guess.  I put the part # from the original mag. in a search engine, and found one on a gun auction for in excess of $50.00  Guns no good without it.

CW, before you go to that trouble, there is a gun show this weekend, and I am going to take the Papoose with me.  If I can't find a mag, I may try and  trade it on a 10-22.  If all the Marlin mags work, I should be able to try one there.....

I appreciate it!  And I may have to call on you.

Ok Ben,
Its really no trouble! (I have to go mail a spring for another member anyhow)

I probably have 8-10 mags for that Marlin so it will not effect me in the least... send me your addy..

EDIT:

I think I just realized what the numbers may be different... BULLET COUNTS!! Some guns had longer mags some shorter!! (Did not think of that) I was just thinking of fitment not round counts... Mine are 6-7 rounds some where 10. Technically that makes for more mags that just 2 as I said...

Thanks Tacklebury for the links, and thanks CW for the mag.  Hopefully this will get this little gun back up and running.  I haven't shot it in years, and when I got it out, the polymer mag had apparently rotted or got brittle and broke.  Kinda' useless as a single shot, and when I have called places to order, they told me the mags they had would only fit the newer, post '98's.  If the one CW sends works, I will order several.

Thanks again,
Ben

The mag is in the mail Brother Ben!

I should have bought one of these rifles years ago!!!

I have reciently been seriously drawn the the rim fires...

Been waiting on a Keltec PMR for almost two years... Looking hard at a 10/22 take down. (Now rethinking on a Papoose) and even liking the Ruger 22/45 lite! (Wish it was BLK not gold.)

We have coyote problems and seems I'm shooting my Marlin and H&R 22Mags everytime I go out...

I just got off the phone with a hunting buddie. With the pending storm yesterday I had allot of prep work making sure all was set for snow removel. My buddie took my rifle and went out for coyotes... Who says a 22Mag is NG on over 100 yard shots???  My buddie shot one yesterday AM with my Marlin 782 at almost 150!!! Using a CCI +V HP in the lungs. Bullet went in and out the lungs with a dime sized exit!! Just like a big game bullet. The dog flipped at the shot and then ran about 20-30 yards and piled up! I'll try to get some pics.

Hi CW, Get the Papoose, they are great fun! I put a small 2Xto 6X on mine and it still fits in the carrying case.

if i'm not mistaken, the difference in
the later and earlier mags is that the
later mags have a slot in the side that
engages a projection in the magazine well
that the earlier firearms do not.
i tried back several months ago to find some
795 magazines and everyone had them
backordered. i had found a small gun shop
that had some that looked the same
that were new, but unpackaged for i
think it was 5.00 each or so. i figured
out the ones i bought wouldn't seat in
the magazine well because of the projection.
i disassembled the mags and cut a slot
with a dremel and wheel using the one
mag i had as a guide. a little touch-up
blue and i was good to go.
(what did folks do pre-dremel tool? ;D )
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

I've been putting off buying a new one myself for my papoose.  I don't use it much any more, keeping it in line for my bugout bag.  The magazine mine came with though is worn so thin at the tip it's like sharp, lol.
