Actually I think what you said was something along the lines of Romney didn't stand a chance in hell of beating obama.  Romney probably won't win tonight, but at last look, he had over a million more popular votes.  Kind of far from not a chance in hell.

Lets wait until the counting is at least mostly done before we start finger pointing and yelling. What I saw tonight is that whenever both sides refuse to compromise, EVERYBODY loses. I have the feeling that trying to reduce or restrict the "rights" of others, especially very emotion laden, deeply held beliefs, is always going to be a losing strategy. I think also that in the end, "freedom to" will win out over "freedom from". As Nicholson said, "never rub another mans rhubarb". As long as the drive here is to maintain our rights, our freedoms, I think we will come out ahead. When we start trying to force our ideas on others......... not so much.

Yep, none of the "real conservatives" wanted to listen when we told them that running a liberal against a liberal was not a winning strategy for the Republican party. They kept answering back with the "electability" statement.

How's Obamney's electability working out for everyone?

As of right now it's looking like the popular vote breaks Obama too but only by the slimmest of margins.

Heres what I don't understand about the republican party. They are always going to win the base NO MATTER WHAT.  Why did Romney move so far from the left as soon as he decided to run for president.
 
Think about this republicans! You voted for Mitt today right. A guy who used to be for more gun control?  For abortion!  And socialized health insurance MANDATES!
 
You voted for this guy. That guy!
 
If he wouldn't have switched so far right thinking he had to just to win your vote he would have WON by a landslide. He had you at hello since your only goal is the lesser of two evils and no matter what you would have voted for him over the OBAMANATION.
 
What I just said makes total since but theres one little problem. He had to move from the left to the right to get through the republican primary's. He had to put on the tea party hard core anti gays anti immigration anti TAX anti everything just to get your nomination.
 
The base COST THIS ELECTION. there voices are loud but there voter turn out is Irrelevant.

 If we give up on everything we stand for and accept a hyper liberal Republican just to win we may as well vote Democrat and forgo the farce that is our two party system.

Romney tried to out Obama Obama in hopes of winning Obama's supporters over. That plan had fail written all over it.

What we need is a national primary so the Romneys of the future have to get the nomination from all states and not just a few blue ones that vote early

This election was determined by single issue voters, not by nah nah i told you so...... There were ballot initiatives ranging from recreational (what are the other kinds?) pot use to gay marriage to voter ID all across the US that brought out voters that didn't even know who the candidates were. All gun owners  need to start praying that the supremes can stay on life support until 2017.

The slippery slope continues to steepen and this election is just more proof of that.

The liberals in both parties out number us, boys and girls, and it will only become worse. The majority of the electorate has chosen this course and the country is down the tubes. It's just going to take a few more years.

I'm old so maybe I won't have to learn to speak Chinese when they foreclose and take over.

It's an interesting idea but here's the problem.  The party-firsters were pro-Romney from the start.  Go back and read threads in this section from primary season. 
 
The genius of what Romney did was that he spent 4 full years convincing party people he was "the only one" who could beat Obama.  Now when you reread those old threads look at how often that is the justification given.  Not, "I like Romney because..." but only, "He's the only one who can beat Obama."  SAYS WHO?  oh yeah, says Romney.  But they bought it.  They figured he could get around being unlikable, unidentifiable, liberal, and politically unsettled.  Actually I don't think they even thought about those things, I think they just kept saying, "He's the only one who can beat Obama!" right up until he didn't.
 
And don't give me the money thing.  Most presidents have been wealthy.  Bush was born into wealth and yet he always seemed like a guy you could go fishing with.  People identified with that.  Clinton was the same way, as was Reagan.  Know who wasn't?  John Kerry and Al Gore.  Now which group do you think Mitt belongs in?
 
Obama was deeply unpopular and should have lost, but this campaign was decided nearly a year ago.  If you want a mirror image look at Missouri's senate race.  Todd Akin was too arrogant to step out and let ANYONE beat Claire McCaskill.  So she won despite being deeply unpopular.  Romney's problems are very different that Akin's, but the inability to see the big picture wasn't. 
 
This country has changed every year since it's founding.  It's changed in the last 4 years and it will change in the next.  If Republicans don't get out in front of that change, they will lose again.  Complaining or big talkin' won't change those facts.

Dukkillr, I don't think that is quite true.  What they (me and others) were saying was that the Republican nominee (whoever that might be) would be the only one that could beat obama (not a third party guy who couldn't win in the primaries).

No kidding BBF, that whole line up was a joke.  Six months ago no one I knew wanted Romney.
But even with their cheating they still have to look at this. It was very close, over 50% of the country
voted for Romney while holding their noses even if he did look like Clark Kent.
And that 50% are the most well armed. Except for my state of illegals and pot head state the entire
center and the South in this country were all red. Hard red, now with an attitude.

Gingrich, Bachmann

Gingrich for all his faults would have made Obama look as incompetent as he is in the debates.
Bachmann would have deprived the Dem. of the anti-woman lies they floated plus as much as they tried to diss her, during the nomination campaign, people they spoke to in Washington said she was very competent in her Congressional assignment.

I can't think of any.  I didn't vote for romney.  I voted for the one that had my views on my most important issue, knowing that he couldn't beat obama.
you vote your conscience in the primary, then for the lessor of two evils in the general election.
