Had a good evening last night. Started off by glassing for deer on some of our hunting properties. I had the long range varmint rig in 22-250 in the back of my jeep. While we were glassing, we saw a coyote at dusk mousing in a field. My buddy grabbed the laser range finder and the binos and I grabbed the rifle and off we went. We manage to work a ditch line that was seperating us and the coyote to about 300yds from his position. He had no idea we were there and he was now well within the area of operation of my 22-250. We went prone and my buddy called the distance at 304yds. Slight wind from left to right. Made my adjustements on the scope and as soon as he went broadside, I let him have it. DRT. 55gr Blitz King smashed though him.
We then went home, changed into out hutning clothes and went out for a night hunt. Put in 4 stands and on the last one, my friend connected with this fella at 75yds with his 22-250. He came in with some bird distress sounds.
Sorry for the grainy cell phone photos.
Anyways, it turned out to be a good night with two dogs down and fur in the freezer.
Got some interesting photos though of what a 55gr Blitzking will do even at long range to a song dog when you hit him in the bone. As you can see, this dog has a 2" exit wound- even after the bullet slowed down at 304yds. BKs are Ok for song dogs, but stay away from the bones...LOL. This is the second dog that I have shot with a BK out of a 22-250. The other was at 288yds and it passed through the rib cage without issue.
