Help with a fair price please
« on: November 04, 2012, 04:15:19 PM »
I found a H&R model 340.  Does anyone have any information on these rifles?  It is 30'06 with a mauser style action.  Any idea what a fair price on one should be?

All of my Mauser actions are bolt rifles, not single shots.

Post a pic?

The 340 is a bolt, not a single shot.  MSP Ret is familiar with the 300 series.  Perhaps he'll be able to help you.

H&R had a '300-series' of bolt actions .  I believe different models may have had different mauser/sako actions.  The 340 was sold in the early 80's based on the mauser mark x action.  Probably similar to the more current 'Remington' model 798 but I have never compared them head up.  Depending upon condition, caliber, wood, etc. I'd say 400-600 is in the ballpark.

Here is a clean one for 600.....

Personally, for this model, I think this is high... 5 is the top number for me and personally that would need to be a very clean, attractive gun in a good caliber... Now if this was a Ultra, and in same shape that price is a good one. ;)

Thanks for the replys guys.  Yes this is a bolt-action repeater, but H&R none the less.   8)

It is in used good conditon.  Bluing looks pretty good but has a few nicks on the stock.  I just looked at it quickly and set it back on the rack.  Didn't really put it through the wringer.  It has a set of Weaver bases on it but does not come with a scope.

I found a Gun Trader's Guide today at Wally World and it shows price for good condition as $230, but just wondered if it has a premium that is not necessarily in the book.
