Another fun day of shooting to double check everything was on. My .444 Handi was cutting ragged holes out to 50 yards. Also got to shoot a CVA Scout in .35 Whelen a friend brought out. Was told by my buddy that when I first shot the .444 everybody watching said "Dang" (Ok really they said the other word). One of them asked if it hit me in the eye. Recoil is far from brutal even with just a t-shirt on. Was easy shooting from an operating perspective. Heavy enough to know you've been out shooting, but nothing to cry to momma about.
However it did give me a side by side comparison of the two rifles. I really liked the CVA Scout and can't find any negative's to it. Also it did not suffer any FTF's at all with the .35 whelen, buddy said he hadn't run into that problem. Accuracy wise he was shooting from a led sled, and I was shooting from a sitting position on the ground. Both rifles shot right in there with each other. As a side note my Handi is 100% factory, and has no mods to date. Both rifles shot 100%, I could not tell 10 cents worth of difference in their accuracy either. Neither are match rifles but for hunting I would take which ever I got the better price on.
Still getting used to the trigger however as you do have to account for the trigger break vs the hammer strike. I can tell if your not careful it is easy to pull a shot with it. I did pull a couple. I don't think lightening it would fix it, and I know a trigger stop is not an option as it must come all the way back. Just something that takes some getting used to like shooting a sidelock muzzle loader. Really it'll just tell on you real bad if you have a flinch.
Anyway a fun day of shooting, putting up stands, and 4-wheeler riding. 85 degree's though and season starts the day after tomorrow.

Crazy weather.
