When did defecation become a public activity?
« on: October 26, 2012, 03:57:09 PM »
First it was public urination. Guys would furtively go to the dark side of a tree and pee furtively, hoping nobody would see them. Then it evolved to just whipping it out in broad daylight and peeing in a downtown sidewalk. Now this has happened with defecation. Once a private matter, I now regularly see bums in downtown minneapolis crapping right on the sidewalk or in the skyway that connects buildings.

You can talk about moral decay and godlessness all you want as signs of decadent society, but this latest trend is the surest sign i've seen.

Hey, when ya gotta go, ya gotta go.  ;D   No, really the type of creatures that functions in this fashion are animals.  And not very well trained animals.  They need to be rounded up and maybe put to sleep if a proper home can't be found.

I suspect if these bums had a place to go, they'd do it there.
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

The way to stop it is to rub their nose in it, or push them over into it. There are convenance stores
that have public rest rooms there is no excuse for this.

Perhaps you could give that a try, Anna? Whilst reciting Matt 7:12?

there are those, and most would use them if they could, though proprietors prob don't like non-customers coming in, esp those looking ragged & without spending money. Perhaps some civic-minded local merchants could get together and have a 'use the potty here!' campaign? Probably more effective than your idea of assaulting the indigent - whaddyathink?

I don't recall anyone here but one bringing any religion into such a discusting subject. The indigent being human beings, are you saying that makes it ok for them to act like animals in public?
Or perhaps your answer to this is to raise taxes and construct public rest rooms for this ?
Great idea , but it has been tried elsewhere and failed.

I did! Jesus' words apply everywhere, not just coffee hour after church (where all that gossip takes place). Srsly... WWJD, re: folks taking a dump in public? It's a perfectly legit question, at to me it is. How about to you, Anna?

No, didn't say that; just being practical, and wondering... WWJD?

No, my idea was for local businesses (brick & mortar businesses w/bathrooms) to publicize that they're avail for public use.
I offered that idea in response to yours, which was to treat the homeless the way you'd treat a recalcitrant puppy... some likely get you beaten up or arrested.

What is this, the Powderman Crusade?

Bite what? I'd be curious to hear how you'd deal with the public menace of public defecation, Pman... ?Would you treat the black Muslims the same as you'd treat the white Christians?

WWJD ? He would probably laugh and tell you that this is a reduculous subject matter to be injecting
any of his teachings into .  We are not talking about feeding the poor here, we are talking about
where it is that they choose to take a dump!

I disagree; Jesus' teachings apply everywhere, esp  in how we treat our fellow men & women, regardless of their circumstances. It might be Jesus taking a dump in difficult/desperate straights - I'm thinking of Matt 25:40-45

none of the above should be construed as Yellowtail3 in favor of peeing/pooping in public, or anywhere close to my stand  - though that latter has happened, when nature called unbidden!

I'm thinking the street people described in the OP probably have some unresolved mental health problems that allows them to believe it normal to go in public, rather than some lack of morals.
These folks would go anywhere even if facilities were close by.
I'll bet the typical down-on-his-luck, sleeping-in-his-car temporarily homeless guy has the mental acuity and resourcefulness to figure out a place to go.
The difference between people who do stuff and people who don't do stuff is that the people who do stuff do stuff.

In the true Spirit of the situation, maybe both sides should acknowledge a little help from each could resolve the issue. If the one side is mentally competent and agreeable.

How come the posts i think are least likely to be interesting or responded to are the ones that end up being hottest topics?

There's this, and then the one about 3.09 gas prices that never seems to go away.
