Anyone use a Stoeger?
« on: October 02, 2012, 10:46:05 AM »
Looked at a Stoeger (spelling?) in 410 sxs today.  Looks like a well put together gun for the money.  Anyone have any experience with one?

I am interested in hearing about this also.

I've been ooglin' that and the same in a Yildiz from Academy, online only, no fondling.
The CZ would have been the dream, but I read that the stock is cast off (right handed), which won't work for me.
Also read the the Yildiz is cast off at the bottom of the stock only, so I haven't discounted it.
Plan to go see for myself one day.

I guess you didn't notice if the Stoeger had a cast off stock, did you?

Nope, it reminded me of the double guns of yesteryear..balanced well, came to eye easily, and felt good left and right handed.  It looks too good for the $349.00 price, so I'm thinking if no one has had trouble with these, I better pick it up fast.

I've seen them around here for $349, but 12s and 20s, not a 410.

I have both a 20ga and a 28ga in the stoeger SXS guns. both are double trigger guns. they are a very good and fun gun for the money invested. my 16 year old granddaughter has claimed the 28 ga and can break 18 of 20 clays with it consistantly(choked IC/M). The 20ga has 20" barrells and serves as one of my home defense guns. Both are a "hoot" to shoot.

Ben,
You get one, I'll get one, we will meet halfway and shoot some quail, maybe Pat Dye's place?
We could invite Bamartr, but with a name that like that, I doubt he would want to go anywhere near Pat Dye's place. ;)

A Stoeger Uplander 12 ga 28" came home with me Friday.

When Ben started this thread, I had been thinking of some kind of 410, with the idea of loading for it.
But reading posts here and other places, my thinking moved to a 28 ga.
Got a Lee Load All for Christmas; inexpensive intro to low volume shotshell reloading; perfect for my needs.
But a Load All won't do 28's.
Read about making 3/4 oz loads in 20 using a Cheerio.
Then I found Claybusters' 3/4 oz wads (and recipes) for 20's and 12's and decided a 12 would be more versatile.

Didn't go to buy it; convinced myself I was there to see the stock was cast in the wong direction so I'd quit thinking about it.
The LGS had 2 in the warehouse, the first one had no cast, so out came the driver's license.

First thought was it looked like a barn gun but that was okay because it reminded me of my grandaddy's 12 sxs.
I cleaned all the shipping gook off of it and it is has nice wood.

I have other shotguns for times when the recipe calls for a lot of meat or I need to have a my best score at clays, but if there is such a thing as a plinking shotgun, this will be it for me.
I have shot a few sxs's before, and let's just say there is a lot of opportunity for improvement.
Starting off with low expectations of my ability, but it should be fun learning.

I bought a 26" 410, and had it stolen in a breakin.  Replaced it with a 22" 410, and like it even better.  Great little tree rat gun.

Ben:  I have a Stoeger 20 ga SxS double trigger Coach Gun that I use for small game.  It is rock solid and accurate and I like it.  When I'm not using it for small game it sits behind the front door.  My only complaint is that you need to manually extract the empties - my next SxS is going to have ejectors.....

Had one O/U I used for trap.  I also had a Browning Centori.  Shot the Stoeger most of the time.  Found it to be a great gun and had no issues.  Just purchased a auto 3000 model a few days again. Put several boxes through it and seems to be a good one.

I think it depends on how much shooting you are planning on doing with the gun.
My firend had three of the O/U's  Stoger after sending him the third gun, having destroyed the earlier two and sending them back under warranty was told that the Stoger guns were not made to shoot two hundred rounds every weekend.
If you are looking for a weekend skeet gun in 410 that you are going to put a few hundred rounds a month through,  I would pass.  If you are looking for a small light weight  game gun that is a pleasure to haul around for the day along with 100 rounds for the weight of a box of 12 ga  you have a great idea.

I find that strange. The Stoeger I purchased for trap was used.  It had to have 3000 rounds easy ran through it. I used it for two years and put another 4000 maybe 5000 rounds and not one problem.  That gun was as good as the day I bought it when it traded.  The guy I sold it to still has it and still no problems.

I've not shot skeet or trap in years, and if I did, I wouldn't use this little double 410.  Having said that, it's got excellent balance, holds a good pattern, and the squirrels and rabbits haven't complained it was a cheap gun.... ;D

Shot my Uplander 12 ga for the first time today.
Wife and I went clay shooting for 28th wedding anniversary.
Based on my previous experience shooting a sxs, I would have been happy to hit 30/100, but hit 60/100.
Remembered to reach for the second trigger everytime, but once.
Think I am going to enjoy this.
Made her some 20 ga 3/4 oz low recoil #9's. She enjoyed it and wants to go again.
Picked up a lifetime supply of hulls, too; plan to make some upland loads with Brushwads and those spreader dividers for quail hunting.

I have 2 Stoeger Uplander both with double triggers.  One 12 ga and the other 16 ga.  I really like them both.

It appears to me that the 16ga uses the same receiver as the 12 but with much lighter barrels.  I found this help reduce the kick of the 16 ga and makes it very fast and easy to mount then easily track dove.
