Marlin stock interchange question
« on: October 01, 2012, 07:40:28 PM »
I just traded for a 444 with a broken/missing buttstock.  The guy said he broke the stock years ago, took it off to try and find one, then moved.  Where it is now is anybody's guess, he doesn't have a clue.  This gun is pre everything, no safety, no nothing from the lawyers.  It has the curved lever for a pistol grip stock.  Will the stock from a 336 fit, or is it a 444 only deal?

444 was more powerful and this guy sells specific ones for them:

Others lump them together:

Any Model 336 PG buttstock will interchange with (maybe) minor fitting, given that EVERY Marlin levergun's stock is fitted to a particular receiver (and so numbered).

What might not interchange is the forend wood - if the .444 mag tube has the bulge in it's rear end to allow loading, like a .45-70 tube/forend does.

Update:  I bought a stock on an auction site for what can only be described as a song.  Best of all, it came with the correct and matching forend.  If anyone is wondering, the 444 does have the cutout for the loading bulge mentioned by another poster.  The stock set I got is from a 444, so no issues at all.  It only  took about 20 minutes to change out the forend and install the stock.  Thanks for the input from everyone, I know I just lucked out.
