3030 with FTX

thought I might use my 3030 this year for deer.  I loaded up 20 rounds with the 160g FTX bullets, CCI primers, LeverEvolution powerder, ww cases.  Using ladder method, I started at like 34.5g and went up in 1/2 grain increments.  36.0g shot 4 holes touching at 50y.  Anyone else using the FTX with this powder?  Is that accuracy typical?  Should I try to tighten it up?  Is there another powder in my cabinet that I should be using?  Any input is appreciated!

If it was me I would be out of the load development business and into some serious reloading ;D with the 36 gr load, followed by the "come on deer season " mode

35.5 worked great for me so loaded 200the which will take me through rifle season

haha...youre probably right!  :-[   I just wanted to hear what might be working for everyone else.  I can often be accused of over thinking things!  ;D

DeerHunter...wow, that's awesome!  1 round would probably last me through deer hunting in Northern Me and more than likely, I could save it for next year!  I notice that Hodgdon's online says that 35.5 is their max.  Hornady 8th ed says 37g if memory serves me.

I have also found the FTX bullet gives excellent accuracy with my favorite load of WW748 powder too!!

I tried it a couple years ago and posted up, like you, about th excellent accuracy I got with it!

To date I have two deer with it, both at very close range bullet impact vel was close to 2300fps and both bullets failed to completely penetrate intact. BUT pieces of each did. BOTH deer where recovered close to impact points, one ran about 50 yards and died as it tried to jump thru a laurel bush. The second one within a couple steps kinda tipped over.

So I would say its a bit lighter constructed then a std 30-30 bullet. But not so much that it will be a problem. Actually the opposite as I assume being it spitzer profile and excellent accuracy, may see use at longer then regular 30-30 ranges.

I like the bullet and will use it again, but I think I like my Hornady 170g bullet better. ;)

 I'm using 36 grains of LVR also, gives me 2300 chrono'd.  I'm shooting 150 gr Nosler Ballistic Tips seated 0.10 off the lands, also WW cases and CCI primers.  Only took one deer so far at 165 yards, did as well as my 308 at the same range
