Taurus 66, very impressive!

I purchased a Taurus 66 with 6 inch barrel a couple of weeks ago to deer hunt with.  Although I was a little skeptical at first, this gun has made a believer out of me!  I was at a local gun shop looking for a double action .357 revolver to buy.  I wanted a 6 inch barrel and they had two to choose from: a Ruger GP 100, and a Taurus 66.  After handling them both, I decided to go with the Taurus.  To my surprise, it had a much better trigger than the Ruger.  Of course, it also didn't hurt that it was about $150 cheaper.  So far I am very happy with my decision.  This is the most accurate .357 I have ever owned, and I have owned quite a few.  With any luck, the deer in Western Ky are going to be in big trouble this year!

Congrats.  8)  I've been eyeballing a 4" version of the 66 for some time.  Rossi also has a similar one I was watching.  The Rossi is a little less expensive.

i have the model 65, it has the 'fixed' sights instead of the adjustable.
i'm very satisfied with it. rugged, reliable, accurate.
it's very capable of very good accuracy at close range, especially when shooting .38 special.
i installed a lighter hammer sping to make it even better.
i've been considering having a 'smith drill and tap for a scope.

I just purchased a 65 off of an auction sight NIB for 380 bucks. Cant wait till it gets here! I wouldn't mind having one of those tiny reflex sights put on it for hunting, but well see how she prints with the fixed factory sights first!

Nice to see positive comments about the Taurus.    Lots of folks don't like them, complain they have had a lot of trouble with them now days.   My experience was just the opposite with a couple I bought back in the 90's, a 606 ported 357MAG snubbie and a 431 44SPL snubbie for CCW.  I put a heck of lot of max loads them and they never missed a beat.   Don't have them anymore, but the local gents I sold them to still carry them CCW.
 
Way back when in the mid 60's my go to DA 357MAG for mule deer was a S&W 19 6", and it handled even the biggest buck just fine.   Your new Taurus 66 ought to get it done in spades for you.
