BROWNING BL22 Questions
« on: September 01, 2012, 03:45:02 AM »
Does your sight work with the factory front sight?

Does your sight work with the factory rear sight folded down, or does the factory rear sight need to be removed?

Will the sight adjust out to 100 yds?

I've hit the annoying reading glasses stage of life, what's the general consensus about using your sights once you cannot see up close anymore?

Thanks,
Dan

Many (a whole lot) of years ago I had a couple of them and had no trouble using the factory irons and one was scoped and as best as I recall I just folded the rear sight down. Mind you I never use huge objective scopes.

In more recent years (prolly between five and ten years ago) I picked up another as I remember my other two very fondly. I wanted to shoot it with the factory irons as I had once done with another. I couldn't do it. I just couldn't make it hit to point of aim. Why I dunno it just would not. Now I could have scoped it and no doubt all would have been well but that was not what I bought it for so I let it go as well.

It has since been replaced by a Henry lever action  and I have no trouble seeing the sights but haven't fired it yet so am not sure but I'm betting it hits to point of aim.

I tried a scope on mine, but it just didn't feel right.  The little BL is my favorite plinker gun.  I can still use the iron sights but wanted to try a peep on it. Hopefully Andy will respond soon.

Hi,
To answer your questions, Front sights are generally sized to work with the factory barrel mounted sight.  When we install an aperture sight on top of the receiver it generally raises the rear sight level which can often (not always but generally) require a taller front sight.
You can fold down the Browning sight and look over the top just fine.
Aperture sights work GREAT for those of us with aging eyes.  Scopes (everyone has their likes and dislikes, its what makes life FUN and entertaining, and I do not care for a scope on my lever guns. )
Hope that helps!
