I'm toying with the idea of getting my first .45acp in prolly 25-30 years. Yeah it's been a LOOOONG time since I let go of the last one.

The gun I'm looking at getting is the Springfield Model XDM952545BHC. Description: 5.25" Match Grade select fit steel, melonite, fully supported ramp. Red Fiber Optic Front (replacement red & green filament included) and fully adjustable target rear. With black polymer framem and forgest steel slde with lightning cut. Comes black & bi-tone.

I saw one locally at the gun shop and they were asking $1000 for it. I can order it online for $705 and the pawn shop will charge me $15 for the paper work. Since tax is 10% and would be added to the one at the local gun shop and there is no tax (yet at least) on mail order purchases I can save almost $400 by ordering. That's quite significant.

Anyone have any experience with these Springfield XDM 5.25" guns or for that matter with the XD? Comments good or bad, things to be aware of or reasons to steer clear of them?

The xdm 5.25 is a good gun IMO. Mine is the 9mm. The trigger was good but I sent mine into the factory for a trigger job and it is even better now. It now has a shorter reset and lighter trigger pull. That ran about $225 but worth it since I am pulling the trigger a lot.

I shoot uspsa with mine and it has worked very well so far. Ran about 6000 rounds through it so far. Price should be right at $700. They had a promo late last year giving you 2 extra mags and mag holster with the purchase.

I had the 4 inch xd 40 for a while I put around 1000 rounds thru it of the cheapest ammo and couldn't make it jam I did buy it used so I dont know if it had a trigger job or not but it was the most accurate and best feeling gun I've ever owned.

Thanks guys that helps confirm my impression of it. I just wanted some input from folks who own them.

I stopped competing a whole lotta years ago. My hands are not that steady these days and my tired old eyes no longer have the sharpness needed for the precision competition demands.

All I'll do with it is shoot on my back yard shooting range tho it might be used for home defense and I might take it with me as a truck gun sometimes.

Any other opinions are welcome.

I would not change the trigger if I was planning to use it for a plinker or truck gun. If you need extra magazines and watch for a sale they run about $25 and are of good quality IMO.

Don't own an XD of any flavor, but have handled and shot the XD M 5.25 in 9mm and .40. I liked the gun a lot, but I like the Glock 34/35 just as well, which I already own. Haven't heard any complaints from any of the guys I know that own XDs I think I would like the 5.25 in .45acp better than the Glock 21, but I have decided to stay with the Glock platform in my business and competition guns due to simplicity of design and parts availability in a proven platform. If I were buying a service type pistol in .45acp I'd sure look at the 5.25. For now I'm shooting the .40 more than anything else.

I have an XDM in a 9mm. Love it. Easy to dissasamble and clean, 18 shot capacity. If you are getting the compact version, they have adapters to allow for full size mags to fit. Extra mags are about $25. Mine came with two mags, I bought a third one. Wife likes to shoot it, and had to add a laser. She doesn't like aiming, just shooting where the dot is.

I have a thing about batteries. I change smoke detectors and flashlight batteries twice a year, when the time changes. Easy to remember, and always have them ready. I have now included batteries in lasers. I have left this one on a year, and it is still good, so those batteries last a long time. Will see how long, might not have to change them as often as flashlights and smoke detectors.

Well I have it on order from Bud's. VIP pricing was $679 minus my trade in to them at $375 for $304. Check and trade in leave tomorrow heading for KY.

I don't think you made a bad choice with it. I don't have an xdm, I have the xd 45 compact. It's the one that has a full size slide and a compact grip. Can take the compact mags and uses a sleeve on a full size mag to give a grip just like a full size pistol.
I know you have at least a glock, maybe more than one. The trigger on an xd (don't know about an xdm) isn't as good as a glock . Springfield kept on saying they would release a new connecter and a 22 conversion for that matter. But they never came about, to my knowledge anyhow. So I did a poor boy trigger job by clipping the firing pin spring a little and polishing a bit. The trigger wasn't terrible, but heavier than a glock and not as crisp breaking. That has been my only gripe. It shoots good and for me anyways feels a whole lot better in the hand compared to a glock. Of coarse the xdm is better all around than the model I have. My speculation is you may have to fiddle with the trigger a bit, but not a big deal at all. I carry a glock 23 and 27 at work, but at home, where I have a choice, I prefer an xd. The reliability is even with both brands, but the xd ergonomics feel better to me. One doesn't outshoot the other when speaking stock for stock. Of coarse an xdm outshoots an xd.

Yes I have multiple Glocks and have had others I no longer own. I was considering buying a Glock 21 or maybe even (horror of horrors) a 1911 but just couldn't bring myself to do it then I saw this gun at a local shop and really liked it.

An adjustable rear sight was absolutely mandatory for me to purchase any of the three. That could be had easily enough with high end 1911s but at far more money. I was allowed to snap the Springfield at the local shop and if the trigger on the one reserved for me at Bud's is as good as it I'll be satisfied.

This will not be a carry weapon tho might ride along in the truck with me some. It isn't a CCW for me I have plenty of those.

My check went out in today's mail and the trade is to be picked up by UPS today.

That xdm 5.25 shoots the rcbs 147 grain bullets very well. I shoot the lower velocity loads so I just make the power factor in uspsa.

I think you will really like that gun

I bought a little rubber sleeve that slips over the grip making a smooth vs a bumpy grip which is more to my taste.

I'm really not a XD or a M&P fan because I see them as a replica of a Glock. I always figure stay with the original design because it has been done right by them first. A friend had purchased the exact handgun of your speaking. The price was right. Bought it used from a pawn shop. He kept telling me you have to come shoot this gun and see how nice it is! I wasn't really interested because of my biased opinion of them. I finally went to the range with him one day and he talked me into shooting it. I have to say I was really impressed. Nice fit and finish, fit well in my hand, no problems or jams shooting cheap bulk ammo, and seemed to be very accurate. I definitely wouldn't pass one up if I found it for the right price used. If I was buying new it would be a glock or a 1911 platform. But as I said I am a fan boy. I think you will be very pleased with your purchase

I have the XD Tactical in 45 ACP. It has the 5.25 barrel and match trigger from factory. Although the trigger is ok, you will probably want to upgrade. I had mine cleaned up at a local gs and it is super smooth with no creep and is about 3.5 pounds. I think the new XDM is called the competition model and I have heard and read nothing but rave reviews about it. At the price you got it for, I see no way you can go wrong. I love mine and I am sure you will too.

The XDM's have a much better trigger and match barrel than the standard XD's. Very accurate, easy to take down, lots of extras in the kit, nice finish, great fit. I have an XDM 40 5" black/stainless and I really, really like it. Never a jam 16 rounds in the mag, awesome gun. It also has a fully supported barrel so you can reload without worrying about the dreaded Glock bulge...

I have shot and SOLD multiple XDM's and in MHO they are GREAT guns. I have two personals the duotone Compact in .40 S&W and the 15 shot big brother.

The trigger pulls all seem to be smooth and their performace is outstanding. Easy to take apart for cleaning and great barrels. I have Night Sights on the one.

The new XDS..... is very sweet. it is a Single Stack .45ACP, very compact, and shoots great. I had two but sold out within days.

I've had an XD 45 sub compact for a number of years now, and overall I like it. No the trigger isn't the best, but its not all that bad either. You can get used to it. I have never had any problems or jams with it. I also like the grip fit in my hand more than the glock. Its the reason I've never owned a glock. Just don't feel right. I always liked the idea of 13+1 rounds of .45's in the XD. I had bought a green laser for it and was surprised how accurate it can be at 25 yards. Guess my 54 year old eyes can't get the best accuracy anymore with iron sights. Not sure that I really like the laser sight though. When I pull the gun up I'm always looking for sights, not a green dot. I guess old habits are hard to break. I'm betting you will be happy with the XD GB.

I have a XD in 45 acp, that is my truck gun. Was skepital at first but fit and felt good in my hand. Now, I'm a confirmed 1911 man and have 10 of them in 45, #8 Super and 9mm. Well, started shooting the darn thing and I really like it. Bought an extra mag so now have 3, when I go out to shoot with it, wish I had more mags. Think you'll be impressed with the XDM version.

Bud's shipped my XDM out today. Tracking shows it will be delivered tomorrow before end of day. I should have it in hand if not tomorrow then the next day.

Haven't shot it yet. I ordered some ammo and it is supposed to be here today. I also have to get a set of dies for it as I've not owned a .45acp of any sort for at least 40 years and didn't keep the dies when I let it go.

I have a XD 45 ACP Service that I bought in 2008. I had also bought a Lyman mold #452460. Everything I read said it would jam with this semi-wadcutter. My friend also bought the same gun around the same time period. I was really disappointed reading about how the XD 45 wouldn't handle cast semi-wadcutters. I even asked the company and they confirmed the XD 45 didn't handle semi-wadcutters well. I finally loaded some up and got together with my friend fully expecting problems. Not a single jam in either gun with the Lyman bullet, or any other bullet for that matter. I'm thinking we were real lucky but it's interesting that both guns handled them just fine. Extremely nice guns for the money. Of course when I bought mine the price was way better than they are today. I'm very happy with my XD and hope you are too.
