Listen, I will certainly never tell anyone what not to purchase, it is your money do as you please.  With that said, I personally would pass on the Scram jet.  Oh, it is everything John Lazzeroni claims and then some, but I like most people can't get over the fact that it is $40 for 20 empty brass and $100 for dies.  For what you are going to spend in brass and dies alone you could purchase ...a very nice scope....another barrel... a proggresive press......and, well you get the picture.  Yes, I have shot some Lazzeroni rounds they were all very nice and very fast.  You would be just as served with a 6.5-06 Improved.

Plus the Lazz. line, falls into the category of too large of casehead for the Encore. Too much pressure and bolt thrust!! Like Jamie said, 6.5-06, or even .264 winmag.

While I've heard reports in both directions. I'm still not sold on rebated rims in the Encore. Another option would be the 6.5 Rem Mag. All in all the 6.5-06, 6.5-284, and the 6.5 RM are nearly equal. And yes they will do what you ask. Although the 6.5 wouldn't be my first choice as a "dual purpose" caliber.

Nor mine, I would go with a .25 caliber for that, although the 6.5 would work.
