Rear sight - scope mount combo...?
« on: August 13, 2012, 04:45:48 PM »
Is there a rear sight - scope rail combo like the Williams 'ace in the hole' for a contender?

Thanks.

EABCO is the only one I'm aware of.....nice little peep on the back of a Weaver-type rail.  I forget what they call it, but if you click on sights it'll come up.              www.eabco.com

Ken Light in Arizona(?) sells a scope rib package with sights on it. It is designed to take scope off and use sights and then put scope back on. I think Leupold makes quick detachable rings that hold zero really well. Google his name or someone here may have his contact info. His package is used a lot in silhhouette.

Checked out both.  EABCO appears to be ONLY for Encore.  Ken Light is seriious money and doesn't look like it would work for a compact hunting gun.

Will the EABCO sight work on a Contender?  Does it have the same hole spacing?

May have to mod something or just go with a scope only.

Thanks.

Not familiar with the Eabco's, but if set up for the Encore they are not going to fit a Contender.   The Williams might be adaptable to a Contender, but adds machine costs.   Others make rails for Contenders that are bolt on and might be adaptable for what you want.   But between cost and machine work you'd end up with a lot of out of pocket cost, maybe more than the best option...

I have had a lot of Ken's stuff for IMHSA, and it is top drawer.   The Ken Light sight rail is THE way to go on a Contender for what you want IMO.   You can buy it sans the taco hood, and it is just about as compact as the barrel is with normal open sights or anything else you'd modify to slap on there, and it is light weight.   Might mean having to use a little taller rings for the scope to clear the rear sight, "maybe", depending on the scope and where mounted, but you don't need to go with his high rise taco hold mounts.    Any ringset that mounts on Weaver type bases will work, no machine work needed to install the rib makes it and the rings your only cost.  Makes it quite reasonably priced compared to buying and trying to modify something else.

One of those you pay to play to have the best for what you want, get by with less or live without.
