Since my grandsons missed grandpa and wanted him back from Cal., we went to breakfast this am.. This is near the Century 16. The restaurant was over a little half full, usually you have to wait. We then went to Target to pick up a couple things, same neighborhood, store wan't busy, there were 4 men wearing dark suits shopping. After figuring out they weren't coming from church, we figure they had to be Feds of some sort. There was a lot of marked down meat; probably they had no business in the aftermath days. It worked for us as the "green" (moldy) meat is most of our supply. It freezes well. There was the usual gathering with signs and teddy bears close by; if it helps them more power.

I gather we get Obama sometime soon. That means another day of screwed up traffic for those of us who work. At the best he may admit that the "little" shootings are also a problem, especially when they miss and hit a bystander, but will not bring out that they almost all are unemployed gangstas with no dad apparent being raised by grandma. Perfect place for an "organizer".

AGAIN I ask, where were the people with concealed carry permits. I'd like to think that I'd have blown the SOB right out of his socks!!!

Sadly no in this case you would not have. I seriously doubt any of us on this site carry CCW guns that would have gotten thru the armor this guy was wearing. All trying would have gotten you in this instance would have been to make you an immediate target of his guns. I believe someone on here who lives near there said the theater has a strict no guns policy.

You're thinking wrong and this wrong thinking would have resulted in you merely being another statistic.

This guy had FULL armor on. Head neck groin and body.

Our ccw guns wouldn't have done a thing even if they weren't banned from the theater from the get go as is the case with AMC theaters .

Wich is comewhat chilling when you ponder the possibility that the heightened popularity of CCW may have been taken into account for the murders tactics. This guy was a dropout from Med school and no idiot, its not much of a stretch to make the connection.

Armor or no armor I'm sure many in that theater would have welcomed the chance to fire back.
I'm not a bad-$$ by no means and it's not likely that I would be caught in a situation like that , but if I had been there that sick punk would have had to leave or kill me before I got to him or the story would have had another ending. The question should be "If you have one A hole in a crowded room he couldn't be facing everyone at the same time. Why didn't someone ruin his day? "

He could also have walked in with the black coat on with bombs underneath and been a suicide bomber. No guns from him, and no CC guns would have stopped him not knowing what he was up to either. A bomb would have done more damage and carnage I believe. I also think he used his shotgun first, and it did most of the killing, not the AR. Buckshot at close range in an open choke scatter shooting. Even with 2-3/4" shells, say 8 of them with 9 pellets of 00 buck, that is 72 shots scattering around the theater.

Actually according to the local PD he started with the "AR" (actually an S&W) and it jammed, so he switched to the shotgun.
As for body armor, I think.some people are misjudging the protection he probably had. Getting shot in body armor, especially with a 40 S&W 180 grain or .357 125 grain load, still tends to crack ribs and knock a man's breath out. One suspects that admired or no this untrained nut would have been at the least slowed by several rounds to the chest. Or head. From what I've read he may well have had no chance to practice with these weapons (when the AR jammed he couldn't clear it and a local gun range rejected his membership application) so I suspect a certified CCW shooter would, in fact, have an advantage. I also suspect he was not even aiming (he had 300 targets and delivered fatal wounds to 12). If he was just shooting at the crowd even a single shooter in the crowd would have the chance to get off several rounds before spotted.

My cousin was a police leutenant in charge of training one time. He said if someone gets shot with a 357, 40 S&W, 45 acp, or such, it will at least knock the breath out of you and probably knock you down. I also think he was spraying. When all is said and done, I would like to know what weapon did the most damage. I would believe the shotgun would have. If it was, then the gun control people can't say it was because of high capacity magazines or an "assault weapon".

Like I said on another post, in the SEC football games, they have security, checking for alcohol and weapons upon entering a game. Then if you leave, you can't get back in period. The same should be done for any place with large crowds. A little more security, all the theater had to do was hire about 2 more boys to stand by the exit doors and not let anyone leave through them or come in through them during a movie.

Being able to respond with fire, body armor or not its a great defensive maneuver. Even with body armor, it hurts like hell and you ain't sharp shootin no more!

A guy on the 24 Hour Campfire had a relative that was shot there. She was hit by bird shot one in the nose and three in the arm. The pellet that hit her nose went through her brain and stopped in the back of her skull. They think she will be ok.

bad deal all the way around. even if they have armor, i still want the chance to fight back. laying on the floor or running hoping not to get shot doesnt work for me.

i carry everywhere. recently, i was dating a woman and her ex showed up when she was at work and killed her 3 kids. it is too bad he didnt show up when i was there. she never complained when i carried, and that was before this all happened. heavy stuff. i dont like watching the news much anymore these days.

Yup! ..Just like schools & colleges across the country, there is a "strict NO GUNS policy" in effect at that theatre.
Of course, those inclined to obey the law, would likely obey that rule also. But naturally, the murderer bent on carnage will pay ..no..none..nil, zip..nada attention to such toothless rules. It sure didn't help there in Aurora..
Not all large capacity auditorium operators are as myopic and brain dead as most theatre, high school and college campus authorities are.
Here is one large capacity auditorium where the people in charge are bright enough to realize that it is far better that a capable firearm be in the hands of a righteous person than in the hands of a crazed killer.

Just read where his "body armor" was just a tactical vest with no ballistic protection. So apparently a CCW COULD hand taken him.

We have all heard the story of how Jeanne Assam saved the lives of possibly 100 people in Colorado Springs over the weekend. She saved these lives by shooting the gunman intent on massacre. Most importantly, Assam's heroics would have been impossible had the gun control advocates been successful in banning guns in church. The madman intent on murder was not deterred by any laws. Gun control laws would only have prevented Jeanne Assam from repelling the attack.
