Your close calls with drivers on cell phones?
« on: July 16, 2012, 11:56:37 PM »
For me there have been several. A near head on collision, at least a few people driving around corners obviously paying more attention to the call than the driving. As far as I'm concerned, cell phone use really is a problem on the road. Some people know how to use them responsibly, others are just a hazard.

There are many people that have a hard time driving let alone talking on a phone while doing it.  Once I exited a road onto another road, where a car was stopped along the berm. Just as I got near the car it swung onto the road to go the opposite way he was facing. I turned my car hard to the right went off the road and almost ran into a culvert. If I hadn't slowed to go by him, I probably would have smashed right into his drivers door. Yes, he had a phone stuck in his ear. I had just passed a residence where it looked like people were having a party. I figure he missed the place, and was getting directions from one of his buddies, when he cut right in front of me.
I'm not sure that he ever did see me. Driving should take 100% of your concentration, and you can't do that when you are talking on a cell phone.

I was on the way home from purchasing a 4 wheeler and had it sitting in the back of my pickup. I had my two sons with me and we were driving on I-75 in the middle lane. A young girl is slightly ahead of me in the right lane and I can see she is talking on her cell phone. Suddenly she comes over into my lane and bumps me and then veers back over into her lane. She never stopped talking at all. Then as if she couldn't figure out why she was unable to change lanes she decides to come over to my lane again, but this time she was more forceful. She cuts hard into the center lane and is ramming me like she's trying to move me out of the way. All the while she's still on her phone. I lay on the horn as my truck is trying to go into a 360 spin in the middle of the freeway. Her rear bumper is hooked in my front wheelwell and when I brake hard it rips her rear bumper off. We both pulled off on the shoulder and as I walked up to her car she was still on her phone. I made sure she was ok and then she begged me to just let her give me some money and not call the police. I told her that wouldn't work because I had body damage. When the cop pulled up he spoke with her and then came back to me and said she told him it was her fault and that she was on her phone. She said her dad was going to kill her because that was the second accident she had been involved in while being on the phone. I have a bet it wasn't her last. I have to give her credit for being honest about it though.

Just a week or two ago.
Pulled into a parking spot in the grocery store lot--opened my door and had the left leg on the ground when a car pulled int the spot next to me--woman on the phone--hits my door and luckily jambs it into the car without closing the door on my leg.
I'm sorry--I didn't see your door was open.  :-X :-X :-X :-X
You got it--no insurance.
BUT--still got my leg.
Blessings

I was towing my boat and I was stopped at a red light. My boat was rear ended by an idiot on his cell phone.
