 Police say Robin Howard, 30, and Kashaun Key, 20, left the children in a home on South 23rd Street that was 85 degrees inside and infested with fleas and roaches.   

Police say the children were covered in bug bites and roach poison.

After searching the home, police said they found marijuana, pills and other drug paraphernalia in the home. They also said there was a stolen gun in the house.

The children were taken to the Home of the Innocents

SHU. I've posted several stories about child abandonment and child abuse, they all involved drugs. I reckon if drugs were legal that these dopers would have been good parents, ya reckon?? NOPE. Sad. POWDERMAN.

The common argument for legalizing is- it's a victimless crime. No one gets hurt by doing drugs.
 
Obviously making it illeagal has done nothing. So Making it leagl will do what? Make the problem go away?

DUK. Obviously, making meth legal would not make these scum loving parents. Those making these poisons are not severely punished enough. Eliminating meth makers will eventually dry up the users. Police in Lou found a mobile lab cooking during a traffic stop. I've seen too many lives ruined with this poison to ever want to see it legal. I know folks who regularly smoke pot. They don't overdo it and it's done in the privacy of their own home and not around their children. I have no problem with that, it's their life and I see these folks as no different than folks who enjoy a drink or 2. Meth, coke, heroin, bath salts, etc are not what I or most thinking people consider as recreational drugs. Those I am dead set against ever making legal. POWDERMAN.

If someone has a legitimate answer for drugs I would be happy to hear it. I really don't have the answer for the problem. Legal or illegal people will continue to use and destroy lives.
Unfortunately the hard core stuff is introduced to grade school kids legal or illegal this is a tragedy.
 
Meth kills pleasure centers in the brain and only more meth can recreate pleasureable feelings so a person uses more meth.
Cocaine is cut with who knows what or it could be close to pure, of course then there is the addiction side.
Opiates a person needs more and more each time not to mention who knows what it is cut with.
 
The problem being is most people don't know their limitations ( people are still driving drunk)
Drug usage can and does ruin lives and create criminals. (Those who are caught stealing and worse).  Maybe legalize it all and let natural selection take its course. Use the money saved on the drug war to bury the dead.

There wouldn't be any repeat offenders.

85 degrees inside? I do hope the wife doesn't take any ideas from this story.   That is roughly the time she fires up the A/C around here. If she gets the idea she is abused by sweating in the kitchen, well, it won't be pretty around here.
 
I'm willing to bet those conditions would qualify as pretty danged good in many countries. Not condoning just pointing out some hyperbole in the story.

If you can't pay everybody you owe you make some hard decisions. maybe she figured the kids being cared for was more important than roof and A/C. Truth is it's pretty damned hard to evict someone or shut off their power for that matter but slamming the door at daycare is fairly easy. Especially if it is a private daycare, that you trust with your children.
 
Having said that, those two don't present the face of concern over child welfare.
