Sako 75 Hunter vs Tikka Whitetail Hunter?
« on: February 03, 2004, 09:10:30 AM »
Is the Sako 75 Hunter worth $390 more than the Tikka Whitetail Hunter? Both carry the accuracy guarantee and are floated so will the 3 lug vs 2 lug be much of an accuracy factor? The Whitetail Hunter I'm considering has been sitting in a little out of the way gun shop for 2 years so the magazine is metal.

I've got no problem with the plastic magazines. Actually, I think that they feed smoother.
The Whitetail Hunter is all you'll ever need to hunt deer within normal ranges; and maybe even beyond.
My Tikka 7mm-08 shoots 1.5" @ 200yards, and thats about as far as I'm likely to shot this gun anyway. Would the Sako shoot any better? Who knows, but even if it shoot 1" @ 200yds; what difference would that make on a whitetail with an 18" vital zone?

My Tikka is several years old and has the plastic clip.  But I have not found it to ever be a problem.  I also have a couple of Sako rifles.  I doubt if a Sako will outshoot a Tikka or vise versa.  Do you need a stronger action?  I guess it would depend on the caliber you are thinking about.  But I doubt if a Tikka rifle, in any caliber, would have any action weaknesses.  To me it would come down to if I wanted a Sako or a Tikka. Which one would YOU  rather own.   Even though I am not well off, if I save up I can buy Sako's.  But if I am just looking for a rifle that will do the job well, I would go with Tikka.  Are Sako's worth the extra cash? To me they are, but to others they would rather use the extra cash for something esle.  It depends on what you really want in a rifle.

The Whitetails are a good rifle, better than the T3. However, you can find good stainless Sako 75s for $600-$700 in perfect shape. That is a possible option.

HHI...I'd buy the Sako SS in a minute if they made it in left hand. :(
