IMR 8208 handloads for the .243
« on: June 05, 2012, 05:08:46 PM »
Does anyone have any experience loading 100 grain bullets in the .243 winchester with the new imr 8208 powder. I really like the idea that this powder isn't temperature sensitive , since i usually work up my loads in the summer and hunt in the winter.(deer that is). I can find data for an 80 grain bullet, but  no heavier! Have worked up a very accurate load with imr 4350, at around 2750fps in 30 degree weather and am sure it would get the job done. But would still like to try the imr 8208.

Hodgdon does not list that powder with a 100 grain bullet on their website..but Varget is one of their Extreme Powders..meaning it is not temperature sensitive..it is my favorite powder for the 243 Win. and just about everything else..

8208 is way too fast for good performance in the 243. Try H4350, it is temp insensitive too. And is a tad slower than IMR 4350, so you can start where your original load was.
