MAgnum pistol primers verses standard?
« on: June 05, 2012, 01:17:16 AM »
Just how much of a difference is there between magnum handgun primers and standard?  Does it really matter if I load up (for example) 9mm ammo with magnum primers?  Will it effect the performance greatly?  Will it effect my pressure?

I've been using the magnums in my .38 Special loads because I got 500 for free.  So far no problems.

Start your loads at the bottom. Rule of thumb is, mag primers add about the same amount of pressure as a grain of powder. If the powder your working with starts at say 3.5grs., don't start any higher than that. Alot of shooters in the northern area's use mag primers all the time, to make sure that they have enough flash to get the powder going in real cold temperature's. gypsyman

alot depends on the brand. cci mags are quite a bit hotter then there standard. Not so much ww though. I had a case of wolf small pistol and large pistol mags and they were milder then most standard american primers.
