Topper serial number

I just bought a Topper 158 with a 22jet barrel.
22jet should be 1961 or later.

The barrel has a snap on fore end (1971?)
The receiver has no visible serial number.
Were there receivers without serial numbers after 1940?
Or is the serial number hiding from me?

Look for the one or two year letter prefix near the US PAT on the left side of frame.

I think the numbers after US Pat is the serial number.

I would bet against that being a serial number at this point.
Gary's in the message you referenced from February is 2876576.
Mine is 2876576.
That could happen, since his is AD and mine is AC; but it seems a lot more likely to be the patent number.
