New REm 514 youth 22lr
« on: May 06, 2012, 01:05:33 PM »
My neighbor just bought his son a recently made Remington 514 youth single shot with plastic stock. It also has some version of the "Accu-style" trigger.  I didn't even know they were making a basic 22 bolt gun. Its a nice gun overall but the single hook extractor doesn't always grab or remove the empty shell. And when this occurs the bolt is surprisingly hard to open. I'm not clear what the problem is and since it isn't my gun I won't mess with it. A close look at the extractor doesn't help me know what the problem is. Stock is nice and weight is ok.

Open sights are fair but my 58 yr old myopic eyes don't like them. The front blade is ground off and white or silvered - real hard for me to see.

Trigger is ok and doesn't mess up like my own son's Savage w Accu-trigger (wrong side pressure there's a click and you have to re-cock).

I'm looking for reports, reviews and advice on this gun.
