The .45-70's have a history of short throats. My BC doesn't seem to suffer from it, I load Black Dawg 460's past the crimp grove with no problems. Sounds like yours has an issue, 405's are what everything .45-70 is based on. Have you checked the length of your brass and made sure it's not too long?

My BC's throat is pretty short.  I have to set Hornady 350gr. FP's just past the cannelure to keep it outta the rifling.  I keep meaning to rent a throat reamer, but it shoots so good, I don't wanna mess it up!

I trim my brass to recomended length and check every time I reload the lands just barely make a mark on the lead slug no preasure signs and shoot good. the 350 speer jacketed bullets I just seat a little deeper and dont crimp being a single shot not realy an issue if not crimped. but I have a few 45-70's and would like to shoot the ammo in both guns. so I don't have to keep the ammunition seperate

A lot depends on the ojive of the bullet you use. Have you experimented with seating depth to find out just how much deeper you have to go to chamber up like you want. Then you will know how much you can trim a case to, but why bother. If the bullet is sticking in the case 'neck' it doesnt need to be crimped. If you really want to use the same loads in a repeater, trim a few of your brass and crimp and check the accuracy in both against what youve been doing. My guess is they will shoot fine.
