Should that be 169 gr?

Both my Handi and Ruger shoot l65 - l69 gr. Boat Tails extremely well.  I load them toward the top end, and use them for everything from chipmunks to bear.  I keep the load consistent and don't have to guess or fool with sights or wonder what the drop's going to be.

I took my new 223 bull barrel out the other day and it also shot well for the first 60 bullets down the tube. 1 1/2 at 100 for the first 4 shots before i just started shooting at rocks behind the target. It was 55 grain Norinco ammo my neighbor gave me he said he had it for years and no longer has a 223. Brass cased so why not now i will have brass for relading after one more renge trip to finish it up and give the barrel a good 100 round break in.

I had a superlight barrel that shot 2 rounds nearly that well at 100yds with Hornady Tap ammo. Unfortunatley that was when it decided to fire. FTF issues were enough to make me pass it on.

Thanks, Dinny at Manas

What is the twist of your rifle. I doubt if the 69 grain bullets are going to do any better than the 62 grain bullets unless it is a 1 - 9" twist.

If one of the older twelve twist that might be the issue as stated. I still need to decide what components I will be getting for reloading. I have a 9 twist barrel and am thinking the 60 grain hornady sp or the 70 grain speer sp. I questioned hornady some time back about that bullet and how tough it would be say if you needed to shoot a deer and they told me that it would work fine with the rite shot placement and that was in a 22-250. That said a little heavier speer bullet migh work as well and i have seen good reviews for that use. dont get me wrong i wont be using my 223 for a dedicated deer gun but if needed in a pinch i might as well already be loading a bullet that can do the job if needed and in the mean time be cheap enough to just shoot with without breaking the bank like with the partition or barnes. What are your thoughts.

that 60gr hornady sp seems to work well in both twist rates.
