Has NEF/H&R made any rifles with new calibers lately? Also do they plan any????? I haven't been keeping up with these things for a year or so....

Other than the 300BLK which is a special order by AAC, no new offerings, in fact they've done the opposite and dropped several chamberings/models and the entire Topper line.  :-\

Sure would like to see them put out a 338 LeverEvolution (Marlin Express)  chambering.  Short, fat and has a nice rim on it and is one hell of a good round.  I have a Marlin MXLR so chambered, and if I coould only keep one of my 19 Marlins, I think that would be the one.  Every time I have put it on paper, she has given me sub-MOA groups at 100 and 200 yd.  I like it better than my 338 Fed, easier on the shoulder and still shoots as flat as an "06 with 200gr bullet.  DP

I would like them to make a real magnum.  .7MM Mag, .300 Win Mag, or .338 Win Mag.  Don't mess with any of those short mags, waste of time when they don't do anything the longer cartridges can do.  With a single shot the short mags don't save inches on rifle length, and those cartridges are tried and true.

But with the exception of Alaska, there is no need for those cartridges.  And the 30-06 serves us well here in the Alaska Interior.

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

I made the recommendation of the 338 MX a while back. I really think H&R/Rem is losing out by not offering any barrels with a 338 bore. Also, it may be the best 338 option out there for a Handi. After all, as you mentioned, it does have a beautiful and glorious rim. ;)

Thanks, Dinny at Manas

A 30-06 looks wayyy bigger under a magnifying glass, or set a 30-30 next to one and watch 'em for a while; with that image in your head go shoot it, it'll seem 'bigger' for some reason  ;) .

In what is probably the largest gun shop in southern Indiana (including Louisville, KY), they usually have in stock one of about every model Handi rifle on a side wall in the back corner of the shop.  In the middle of the floor is a stand between the used racks that had 9 new 357 mags, and 8 new 44 mags a few weeks ago.  That rack will have between a handful and a combined couple dozen of those two calibers every time I'm there.  Those two models of the Handi rifle are very popular with the Wal-Mart white box ammo deer hunters in Indiana (and there is nothing wrong with that).

With Remington running the show, I'd expect them to move H&R toward that floor rack and away from the wall rack.  Low volume calibers will become accessory barrels and low volume accessory barrels will fade away.  Any new calibers will probably by like the special order 300BLK, which I believe is made by one of H&R's sibling companies.  No reason not to keep the profit in the family.

Remington no longer wants to make 357 Remington Maximum brass (even though there is growing demand), and Marlin discontinued the 444 Marlin lever gun this year.  Cerberus is not a sentimental bunch.  They will produce what ever increases earnings the most.  It is as simple as that.

And maybe when washing machines make them more money they wont make guns and ammo?
