seceiver sights for marlin 1894
« on: April 26, 2012, 04:11:53 PM »
I've got a marlin 357 lined up and am going to slap a set of receiver sights on it.  I know the williams sight for the newer models use the rear scope mount screw holes.  Midway has these on sale real cheap in their flyer.  Any body got a picture of what these look like?  It's either the williams or the XS sights.  Would appreciate any picturs that you have.

Might take a look at Skinner sights.  He's a site sponsor and has some really nice workmanship.  ;)

The Williams WGRS sights are just a pair of wedges facing opposite directions and dovetailed togather with the peep dovetailed crosswise on top. It is a neat, sturdy set up and adjustable for both windage and elevation. I put one on a Marlin 95 before Williams made one specifically for that rifle. I had to modify the hole spacing.

I have an 1894 357 and I have had Williams sights on other rifles.  I've been disappointed with the Williams sights.  They are not very heavy duty and are easily disturbed.  I once put a sock on my Ruger 10/22 with a Williams sight and pulling the sock off it pulled the Williams sight right off the receiver.

I've been considering buying the Skinner Tactical Sights (both front and rear) for the 1894, but they are also more expensive.

Just recently I have installed a Marble's Bullseye (fixed) sight.  For ~$16 they are an inexpensive alternative (mounted on the barrel).  I haven't sighted it in yet, but I did get a groundhog this morning with it.  ;)

I've had a Williams peep sight on my 1894 .44 for many years and have not had a need to adjust it. In my opinion the rifle is a 100 yd deer killer and a peep sight is just about perfect.

I've had great service from a Williams foolproof on my 444 as pictured above.  The 5D is a similar sight that is not screw adjustable, just slide and lock.  It is cheaper.  The WGRS, Williams Guide Receiver Sight, sits up top and is only slide adjustable.

If choosing the top mount I would go Skinner.  I have used two WGRS' and they are fussy to adjust.  The FP is a nice sight and easily adjustable if side mount suits you.

Ditto on the skinner. I have all the above on various rifles and the skinner seems to be perfect om my Marlin 44 mag.
