Just finished the chamber on one of my 22 Hornet barrels that I wasn't sure what to do with , I was trying to decide what I wanted to do with it when I saw the K reamer that Quick had on the list .

Well a couple PM's and a trip from the west coast and now its done  :) :) :) .

Only took about 15 min once I had everything ready , even got my 9 year old daughter to help , she was my oiler  ;) , now to run it to the range in the morning to fireform some cases .

The extra case life is only part of the reason I did it , as I have well over 1000 peices of Hornet brass to work with , most only once fired and even some new .

The biggest reason is just because I WANTED ONE  ;D , I'm just a odd ball Handi junkie , so if its something that H&R never made = I WANT IT .  ;)

Now for the REAL question.  What color is she gonna be? ??? ;D   DP

I knew that would come up sooner than later , when I got the Hornet BB from Shaner , he tossed in another set of stocks that he had stained to match , once I get the barrel channel cleaned out and the stocks changed I'll try and get a pic up with both of them .

And just so you know , their Army Tank green !  8)  no bright colors for this pair . My Green Hornets

stimpy,

Very nice!  Going to have to bug Catfish some more about a fall Ohio shoot so I can see The Green Hornet. ;D

What is it with wifes and shooting rifles indoors?  You can't shoot in your basement and I have been banned from shooting inside the horse barn while the horses are in their stalls!?!?  Women, go figure. ::)

I have used 55 Grain FMJ pulls and 9.0 grains of Lil' Gun to fire form loads with. I have found them to be surprisingly accurate. Overall I have found that the K Hornet is more accurate than the regular Hornet. The cases do last longer too. The fire formed cases are oh so sexy 8) ;D

Good Luck and Good Shooting

Well it didn't blow up  ;D I was just fire-forming with these loads , however the heavier bullets do show promise , these were some of the loads that didn't do so well in the 1 in 12 twist barrel . The barrel that I used for the KH was the standard contour 22" in a 1 in 9 twist , not sure if that is having that much of an affect but it did seem to help with the 55g and 62g pills .

All the shooting was done at 50 and 100 yards with the 55s holding right at 1" @ 100 , while the 62s kept @ 3/4" for the same range . For powders I had a mix of 2400 , H110 , Lil'Gun and Ramshot's Enforcer , On a side note the Enforcer does very well in 41 & 44 mag loads too .

Of the 100 + case's that I fireformed , I only lost 4 to split necks , which was a suprise being that the brass was once and twice fired .

My experience with fire forming all of the Ackley/Wildcats is to anneal the necks of the cases before they are loaded, especially with previously fired brass. Before I started annealing them I lost some even firing new factory loads in the Ackley's.
Looks like you got a winner there Stimpy! I may have to ream one of the 1-9's myself ;D Glad the reamer worked for you.

Happy Trails

Stimpy,I have fireformed 200+ winchester cases  without annealing and haven't lost any.  What brands did you use?

I have also fireformed 300 Remington cases with out annealing or losing any, but they were all brand new. You would not have to anneal new cases. If you have shot them in a regular Hornet once or twice, then you should anneal before fireforming, Only losing 4% is not bad at all with once and twice fired cases. I would anneal them before sizing /reloading for the next round however.

You will find the 22K Hornet to be surprisingly accurate once you find what it likes best.

Good Shooting and Good Luck

There is no edge, the world is flat............or even uphill; thats why our bullets keep getting closer to the ground the farther they go.  ;)
