.223 twist
« on: April 21, 2012, 05:31:50 AM »
Got a couple differnt .223's One a Handi, the other is a Howa. Please tell me if I have this right, a slow twist stabilizes a light for caliber bullet better that a fast twist? The Handi is an older model, with I think a 1 in 8 twist, will it shoot 65 gr bullets? Thanks for any help.   :)

One in eight twist will shoot 65 gr bullet just fine.   1: 14 twist max bullet weight should be 55 or 60 gr and a 1:8/9 twist max weight bullet should be 70/75 gr.  (optimum).  Faster twist/larger bullet.

Per the FAQ, older handi's were 1-12 and most cannot get them to stabilize more than 55 gr. bullets.  Newer ones are mostly 1:9 twist and should as the bear stated go up to 70 or 75.  ;)

Knew I'd get one part of that wrong, thought older Handi's had slower twist. Thanks.
