Older 45/70 ?
Hay all
Today I picked up a used Handy Rifle in 45/70, after a lot of reading and searching FAQ and Help
I found the SN # Prefix  of NH would put the year of maf. 1993.
I checked and it is the SB 2 farme, my question? Are the older SB 2 frames strong enough to
Take the Marlin level  loads?  Would these loads be considered High Pressure Chambering?
Thanks

If your talking about loads like the "Buffalo Bore - 45-70Magnum" loads.  The answer is yes.

   http://www.buffalobore.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=151

The SB2 Handi frames can handle the 60,000psi generated by the 500 S&W round, so the approximately 40,000psi generated by 45-70 Mag loads can be handled by a Handi.

"You are entitled to your own opinions, but you are not entitled to your own facts." - Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan

When you allow a lie to go unchallenged, it becomes the truth.

My quandary, I personally, don't think I have enough Handi's but, I know I have more Handi's than I really need or should have.

you SB2 should be fine, my 1988 SB2 worked well with levergun 45-70 rounds.

I would check the underlug to verify it is welded.  pre 1986 45-70s underlugs were not welded but brazed & barrels do get switched.

Hay All.
I know it’s been a while, but I did get to shoot some mid level Marlin loads
only to discover I have a Trapdoor level shoulder.
I do have aTrapdoor load that shoots good, 30gr. SR 4759, Hornady300gr.JHP
@ 1380 FPS and 1.5 in. at 75yds.
Thanks All

.... I have a Trapdoor level shoulder.

I like that. Well, you won't find a lot of kindred spirits here. There is a long streak of masochism among the recoil junkies here  ;)   I take it you have no interest in a Hubel Express of one ilk or another?

I'm with you completely though. 30-30 is one of my favorite rounds and ever since I went Swedish (6.5x55) my interest in my 30-06 has tailed off substantially.

I see no reason to shoot heavy loads in a .45-70 and it's my favorite cartridge.

yep I'm with the rst of you, trap door levels are okay with me. The heviest I go is hornady LE rounds in my ultra hunter only because they shoot the best in in that gun.
