Remington 700 Custom KS Mountain rifle
« on: January 28, 2004, 10:38:49 AM »
Looking for opinions/feedback on this rifle. I've been searching for months for left hand bolt actions in stainless/synthetic. Needless to say the pickin's are pretty slim. It's either the A-bolt, the 700 Custom KS or a custom job. Is there $450 difference b/w the 2 rifles? I'll hang and listen now. Thanks!

I don't own a KS, but I have shot quite a few.  Nice rifles they are, but a bit over-priced in my opinion.  You could just as easily get a regular 700 Mountain rifle and get it customized - ie. trigger job, glass bed, pillar bed, free float barrel, etc.

I also own a couple of A-Bolts, but they too are a bit over-priced, although not as overpriced as the KS.

My recommendation, get a Remington BDL SS and customize it (including getting an aftermarket stock - like McMillan or HS if you want synthetic, or get a laminated stock).

Or, better yet, get the Remington Mountain rifle stainless laminated and do some of the custom work I mentioned.

I have owned several A-bolt's & one KS mountain rifle.  I liked the KS mountain rifle better, it was more accurate & seemed to be built better.  But you asked is it worth $450.00 more (IMHO) NO.  If you are patient & have time you can find a used one & save alot of money.  If I was in a hurry I would buy the A-bolt & start with a good trigger job & see how it shoots.  The Remington custom shop guns are over priced & do not hold there resale value that well.  Enjoy.
