Hey fellas, I keep hereing that the weatherby in any cal has more power than other brands in the same cal, is this right> if it is then why?

Hmmm, that depends what you are actually comparing.  Granted a 270 Weatherby caliber has more power than a regular 270, but Weatherby also makes the plain old 270 which is just that . . . a plain 270.  Look at the 7mm rem.  Power wise they would go in approx the following order.  7mm rem. mag, 7mm Weatherby mag, 7mm STW, 7mm ultramag.  So you have to compare apples to apples.

The power of a cartridge is primarily a function of how much powder you can get into a cartridge case given the same weight bullets and the same powder. Some of the Weatherby cartridges simply hold more powder and therefore push a certain caliber bullet out faster. This is a distinct disadvantage if you don't reload because you pay a premium for Weatherby ammo which is unique for many of the Weatherby rifles.

Weatherby set the standard that other manufactures have/are trying to duplicate or beat ever since Weatherby went into production.  Yes the .300 RUM is faster than the .300 Weatherby BUT NOT as fast as the .30-378 Weatherby Magnum.  Same goes for the .338 RUM and the .375 RUM.  Weatherby topped them with their .338-378 and the .378 Weatherby Magnum.  This only is important if you are into SPEED.  Recoil for these monsters is formidable.  Personally I will take my old, slow .300 Weatherby and leave this new crop of speed freaks to the ones that believe they need all that speed.  Lawdog

As the wife says I have more than my share of Weatherby firearms and I only know of one person that ever had a problem with one of their products.  It was a Accumark and Weatherby had a new one in his hands within two weeks along with a letter of apology and a coupon good for two FREE boxes of ammunition.  As far as I am concerned Weatherby Customer Service is the best.  There are other companies out there that could learn from Weatherby.  Lawdog

I am just getting my Weatherby Varmint Master 223Rem. scoped out. I hope to have her up and running this week,.. Can't wait!  This is my first Weatherby, but I have heard nothing but great things about them.  Can anyone offer more comments. From all I have read so far, it sounds like especially if I did ever have a problem that the customer service Dept. will never be a problem with a Weatherby. Thanks,
