62 grain sp silver bear ammo in 223 handi
« on: March 23, 2012, 10:11:22 AM »
I know it been talked about a bunch regarding the hard primers and case cases sticking in the military rounds such as the 223 and 7.62x39. I dont know if anyone has actually tried this ammo in particular cause I was thinking of buying some to try and wanted to get opinions. Have a new 223 on the way.

That is exactly one of the resons it would be great if it was ok. I now load for 243,270,357 mag and max, 30-30 and soon to be 44 mag and 445. I dont want to add any more reloading supplies if not needed. That said if the silver bear shot ok for the price you can get it i would be happy. understanding accurace might not be the best it will be for plinking anyway. just dont want stuck cases and ftf or it defeats the purpose. trying to find an ammo i can buy that fits the nitch of being cheap but reliable if there is such a thing.

You're gonna want to load for the 223 anyway, so just spend that money on gettin the supplies you need ;D  The 223 can have so many different uses ;)

is it the 223 or 5.56? i have seen both,  223 shot ok accuracy was ok, 5.56 didn't go so well only tried a couple 3or4 had to double hit one so i figured it has harder primer shot the rest in my ar 1in9 shot about 2in at 200 in the ar
by the way my handi is the older slower twist it prefers lighter bullets anyway, haven't tried them in my newly acquired 223 ultra 08 model (should be 1 in 9)

I am just going to stop being lazy and get the reloading stuff. Why not one more caliber. Intresting read on an old post I found where Tim and some others talk about the old 12 twist barrels handeling the heavier bullets better than the new 9 twist due to the twist groves being not as deep as the 12. Really would like to try shooting the 70 grain speer sp. Hope I can get her shooting them well. If not 60 grain hornady sp it will be :)

Do your self a favor and get some Fiocchi 40 grain V-max and  50 grain V-max ammo when it is on sale at Cabella's. The worst it shot in any of my .223's is 5/8" 5 shot groups at 100 yds in my SS bull barrel N.E.F. You can buy it for less than the cost of components, and have good brass to reload when you are done.

I shoot Nosler 60 grain spitzer Partitions at game in a 1:12 Bull Barrel that is a ton of fun.  I also reload 55 grain Varmint Nightmare Express and Hornady 55 grain VMax for both the 1:9 standard .223 handi-barrel, the handi-bull barrel, and twin AR-15's.  You will like reloading these, particularly if you have a progressive press.  The bullets are accurate as are your barrels.  Combined, they are also a ton of fun.  Plinking and/or Game Getting will never be the same.  Plus, these little Black Rifles just look bad-a**.

Same here, I've had the lower half for over a year and am thinking of getting the rest of it sometime ;D  Probably not go as far as passing on a good bolt gun unless the ARs are accurate. I've only shot one and wasn't impressed.
