shootin the blunderbuss today
« on: March 21, 2012, 12:53:48 PM »
Well got the new 10gauge blunderbuss out today.  I am generally more of a precision and less of a 'scorched earth' kinda guy but I couldnt pass this one up.  The previous owner had mounted a removable M15 grenade launcher sight on it and had made some custom slugs.  I had some trouble dialing it in, was grouping around 12" at 50 yards (without the sight and just using the front bead standing, 80g FFG and the custom slugs.)  One would think blunderbuss and bench shooting would never be in the same sentence!  I tried the launcher sight on the bench but I think I have some shimming to do or adjustment as the POA and POI were not quite right.

I also loaded it with 7 .315 balls and shot a target at 25 yards.  They all hit the target and grouped around 18"x15". Not bad and much less spread than I was expecting.

Was also able to recover a slug for fun.

Ya, it is fun lobbing these things. Not sure on weight. They seem to be a bit under the RB weight due to the hollow base that obturates. No patch or cards, they are lubed

That looks like a fun piece. A hand full of those .315 to the chest sure would ruin your day :o  Thanks for sharing. Kurt

Wow! That rifle is beautiful/impressive. Who make that? And what is the history of it?

PA,
10GA is .775" bore... a pure lead RB for it is 700gr; punkin balls (slugs) could be of highly varied weights by design from far less to more than the RB's weight.
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus
