A quick trip to the range......
« on: March 19, 2012, 03:01:35 PM »
Evening guys,
In the past two weeks I have picked up a few new Handis... ::) Tonight I had a chance to shoot them at 50 Yards. No time for 100 and sorry, no pics either...

22mag std barrel Blk Syn stock, 2X 45/70 STD guns, A 45 Colt (barrel only I fit to one of the 45/70 receivers)  and a Syn 30-30.

22Mag is a one hole shooter!!!  Both 40G CCI HP's and 50G Federals shoot into a ragged hole at 50 yards!!

One of the 45/70's would keep its bullets touching. The other was not as good. BUT I don't like the lock up and did not check it for dry latch before shooting. Both where shot with my hand load of 4198 powder and a 400G speer to about 1600 fps.

The 45 Colt was good, not great. But I only tried two loadings. Both shot to point of aim into about 2" again at 50 yards.

The 30-30 is also a std gun syn stocks. With my long time favorite WW748 powder load and both a 170 Hornady and a 160 FTX. BOTH upheld many peoples thoughts that the 30-30 may be the most accurate handi... easy 1/2" at 50, it is such a good shooter even my wife was able to shoot into 3" with about 15 rounds! Thats something for her too! The girl can shoot a pistol, but something about a rifle dosen't sit well with her.... she just don't shoot them well... She hit the 3" "Shoot N See" sticker every time!

SO the one 45/70 needs some attention, the rest either shoot as good as I expect or with load tuning soon will!

The 22Mag is a nice suprise! I really like those 50G HP Fedrals, but most of my guns don't shoot them worth a damn... I keep them for the NAA revolvers, they tend to tumble... FINE by me as if I ever use them things will have gone quite badly... for the guy on the business end at least.

Great Shootin . I have been working with a standard 223 the last 3 or 4 weeks . I bought it new about 3 years ago but only had time to scope and shoot it last month . I have a 3x9 Bushnel Trophy on mine and with Fedral 55gr FMJ ammo from walmart I get 3-4" at 100 . However , with Remington 55 gr FMJ ammo I get a consistant 1 3/4"  5 shot group at a 100. I am about to work up some 65gr Seirra loads and I am hopin for some tighter groups.

Good shooting CW.  My mag. likes everything I feed it as well.  I've been surprized with all the Handi rimfires.  All are excellent!

Now you've got me wanting a dirty thirty.

I just picked this up last weekend. Kinda grabbed my "eye" in a dusty corner not tagged. Someone put it together as its got older syn stocks sites and '09 receiver. the man said 175 I plunked it on the counter before he changed his mind.  I'm thinking 30-40  as I already have a great shooting 30-30....  But that's for another day for now it will stay as is.;)

That 45/70 did indeed have a oily latch!  Also I failed to mention the 45/70's and 30-30 where all shot with open sites!  I mounted a Simmons 4-12 AO on the mag and a VXII 1-4 on the Colt barrel.  I put a 4x fixed on the 30-30 last night. Gonna decide what to do with the '70's. I don't need them just wanted the receivers.

Gonna shoot this 22M allot more!!!!! I have some dyna points coming. As well as about 6 other "flavors" for next trip!  ;)

Sounds like a good range day!  Both my 22 mags shoot most brands quite well as does my 22 LR.  Need to dig out my 30-30 and 30-30AI this spring, I think they are lonely.  DP

IRON SIGHTS now that is good. I would be tempted to keep the 30-30 without the scope and it would really be Handy.
