Can this bullet be used in standard 444 Marlin brass when shot in the Handi rifle?

I'm wondering if I'm missing the point of the question. Is your concern that Handi's are too long throated for optimal use of this bullet?  I am not aware of over long throating being much an issue in H&R products. And since that bullet is intended for use in standard M444 brass in lever guns, OAL is not too long for a Handi, so, it should not only be fine, but you may seat it slightly shallower for your Handi.

I know that the 265 grain FTX bullet when loaded in factory 444 ammo is loaded in shortened brass, just like the 45-70 is.  This is to keep COL short enough to function in lever guns.  I was wondering if I reload with that bullet using standard length brass if there will be an issue in the 444 Handi rifle.  Basically I was wondering if there would be any throat issues with this bullet.  Just by eyeballing pictures on Hornady's web site, it looks like it would be fine, but I thought I would ask if anyone here had tried it.

Standard trim length for the 444 Marlin is 2.215", Hornady recomends  2.065" when loading the 265 grain FTX bullet.

I could be totally off base, but it's my understanding that the problem occurs loading hornady LE brass with regular bullets.  Because the brass is shorter you could run into over pressure issues loading regular bullets to the cannelure.

I think you would be fine loading FTX's in regular brass.  But when unsure ASK HORNADY ;)

I dont have a 444 yet, but I am considering one.  I wondered if this would be an issue.  I like the bullet, and if nothing else, I will buy some some Hornady LE ammo then reload it.

We did some 45-70's, seated them out just like any other bullet, had no problems with ours.  I'd figger the Trip 4 in a Handi to be the same.
