Freckling ?

 I've seen some posts lately that mention freckling, particularly on case hardened recievers. What exactly constitutes freckling ? Rust spots or some other discoloration ? Probably a dumb question ,but inquiring minds just gots to know .

If it's light enough you could take some fine steel wool and gun oil and lightly go over them and a lot of times you can get them off.
