So, I've never shot a long barreled higher powered rifle like my .223 handi before, just .22s and an AK. Is it normal for the gun to "hum" or vibrate as the barrel resonates? It was a little weird.

Sorry I had to. Could it be the rest, or something your touching or maybe a loose forend ? I've never heard of an audible hum before.

All barrels resonate, but I've certainly never HEARD one! That would be quite the trip!

There is a company that sells a barrell derosonator.....ugly rubber cone, but it does help with accuracy by taming vibration!

Now if we could just find three more barrels that one can hear, it would put a whole new meaning to "barrel harmonics". Maybe in a barber shop quartet type of way.

Shoot it a few time without Hearing protection and that hum will either go away or stay with you forever. Must be one of those new Hummer barrels, I want one

LOL you guys are killin me! I couldn't actually hear it, that was the best way I could describe it. It is possible that with a good cheek weld, you could get enough conduction through your cheekbone to hear it, but I digress. Sounds liek it's a normal thing, I'll see what I can do to tame it.

I have a vibration damper on my 223 bull. My brother-in-law is a hell of a long range shooter and talked me into using one. He can actually increase and decrease the size of groups with the placement of the damn thing. I saw him do it. I'm really new at this game of bench-rest shooting but he isn't. He shoots 200, 400, 600 and 1000 using a .308. The damper is new but it appears to have benifits.

Yeah but its so ugly I'm afraid that were I to have a rifle that shot badly enough to need one, I'd have to place said rifle in a for sale column somewhere! The BOSS on my Browning is BAD enough....

I know there is some beauty in function, but there is something about putting what looks like a rubber car part on the end of my barrel that just doesnt do it for me...........

This barrel is not a bull, which probably would quell the vibration a bit. I still like it though, just gotta sight it in.

Maybe put some navcom,( Noise And Vibration Canceling Out Material.) under the end of the forend.

When I shoot, it ain't the barrel makin' the racket, it's these old bone vibratin' and rattlin'.

Maybe its foolish but if it vibrates that much would it be wise to check to see if it was in battry correctly ? I know all vibrate and they are supposed to do so from the chamber to the muzzle according to some much like a whip.
