Zastava MP22
« on: March 08, 2012, 07:01:55 AM »
Has anyone had experience with one? They look good in photos and my old Zastava 16 gauge side by side is a very well made gun but I've never even seen one of their .22's. I'm looking for a .22 WMR a cut above the Savage and Marlin but for several reasons don't want a CZ. I have a CZ 452 in .22 LR and it is highly accurate but just not what I'm looking for in the .22 WMR. My accuracy requirement is no worse than 1" at 50 yards with at least one brand of ammo.

i've really enjoyed my zastava .22lr. mine is a remington 5 with the laminated stock. they imported them from zastava a couple yrs. accurate and all steel parts so not much to break. i'm also tempted by the 22mag. about 320.00 here in canada
every day is a gift. use it well

Thanks for the reply, I'd forgotten the Remington connection.

Coyote Joe,
USSG used to import Zastava firearms. They no longer do so. K-Var Corp now imports them. The good news is they offer 3 choices in wood quality: standard, fine, & premium. In 22Mag they run $309 for the standard, $334 for the fine, & $359 for the premium. I have always liked these rifles. Everyone that I have talked to that owns them weather they have a 22LR, 22Mag, or 17HMR, all are very happy with the accuracy. Some have even compared theirs to CZ's of the same caliber. I plan on getting one in 17HMR with the standard wood. It's going to be a hunting rifle that I can carry around. I have a heavy barrel Savage 93R17 for the range that I would rather not lug around. Oh, by the way, try some Hornady 30gr V-Max when you get your new rifle. I tried it in my 22Mags and they all shot remarkably better! Good luck. Here's the link.

I found somthning diffrent than a boring .22mag bolt rifle you pay too much for and still has plastic on the gun.

get a Taurus 72 Pump.......Best darn impulse buy I'd ever made, one the most accurate .22mags Ive ever fired that cost less than $350.
Taurus counter bores the muzzle 1/16" when the crown the barrel, that really contributes to accuracy I think.
only plastic on this Brazilian Mfg chunk of machined steely coolness is the butt plate!

The Taurus pump just is not a scope sight gun and would not meet my accuracy requirement. A good bud has one with a 2 1/2X scout scope, he's a serious shooter and says his is about a 3-4moa gun. I tired in my search for a Zastava and went ahead and bought the CZ, not what I thought I wanted but it sure is a shooter and I'm now glad I got it.
