Remington Model 760 Gamemaster Scope Mount
« on: February 22, 2012, 07:44:05 AM »
Hi,
I Recently purchased a 1951 Remington Model 760 Gamemaster, and have been looking into mounting a scope.  I'm kind of new to the firearms world, and I'm having a bit of trouble.  There are no holes to mount  a rail or conventional mount to via screws or bolts, and no rail in the first place.  Is there some kind of mount that does not require a hard mount to the gun, such as a screw, or bolt, that I would be able to put on this rifle?
Thanks
Chris.

I think they started to drill and tap in '53. You would have to take it to a gunsmith and they could set you up.

There are no "no gunsmithing" mounts that I know of...

I have a early Remmy 760/35 Rem as well that was not tapped. I had a GS drill and tap it and I mounted a vintage Weaver tip over mount.

Now I have a Model 14 Carbine that will never be tapped as it has much collector value. But the 760 are still pretty easilly avalilble and not commanding big bucks...yet.

Willaims has mounts but you'll need a competant smith to do the installation.

I have never seen a 760 dated to 1951 ! If it's in unmolested condition , I wouldn't touch it . It may have some collector value , especially if it's not a 30-06 . Remington started tapping all of the 760s in 1955 , and good old straight guns are sought after ! That being said , if you decide to tap it , I have a few Weaver tipoff mounts for sale .
