7400 & Rust
« on: February 15, 2012, 01:15:23 PM »
Has anyone ever seen a 7400 blow the forend apart because it couldn't extract the brass from a rusty chamber ?

Nope can't say that I have. That would have to be one very rusty chamber! :o   This is why we clean our guns! ::)

Well I hadn't either , till a customer brought me one . Now I have , I went over it with a fine toothed comb , to figure out what happened to it . That forend is steel lined for a reason , makes the gas come out the top when it can't cycle the action  because there's a piece of brass stuck in a rusty  chamber . I spent an hour cleaning the rust out of the chamber and polishing it up , I've seen some nasty ones , but none this bad , I'm surprised it would even chamber a round and fire . The thing runs like a Swiss watch now , just needs a new forend !

What a shame for someone to treat a gun like that.   I hope you billed them for labor!!

You betcha ! The rifle belonged to my customer's son in law and he gave it to him after the forend came apart , didn't want anything more to do with it . Worked out well for Gary , he'll have a 7400 for less than $200.00 after we replace the forend !
