OK, you want to screw up my decision, then let's discuss opinions.
I am in the market place for a .22 mag---shooting out to 200 yards---bench rest.
I like semi-autos.
I think Bolts are a better choice for this---but I don't know if I am correct in this thinking.
I am just not fond of traditional bolts.
I had almost decided on the Browning T bolt---I really like all I read about it.
Then I find that CZ makes a .22mag in a semi----Grrrrrrr.
I also think you can get a Browning Semi in .22 mag.
I think the T Bolt will scope easier.
What is your thinking.

You've been wanting a t-bolt for over a year now. Just go buy it. Then talk me into one.

I'm happy with my stainless 93, and fine with it being a boltie. If I'm shooting the more expensive .22 mag, I'd rather take my time for each shot anyway... if I'm walking rounds into a running hare, the 10/22 would be a better choice anyway.
While I've never used the .22 mag cylinder on my li'l Rough Rider, I do want to wring it out and carry it when I'm out in the field with the Savage.

Your LGS opens at 9am tomorrow morning.

I dont know if they still make it, but Browning also used to make a fine pump 22Mag! It resembled the auto 5...

The CZ is a damn nice gun and usually a excellent shooter as well.

Its likely not what you want, but Marlin alos makes a stainless steel Heavy Barrel 22Mag bolt... I found it in MY recient searches for a 22Mag bolt gun... They may have a semi too...

Something Elat to look for is a older H&R auto. That was also a very nice gun!!

The traditional bolt is not something I am willing to consider. The "T" bolt seems to fit my mind as a bolt consideration and at 200 yds I think this would be the best choice.
Now, having said that, I had not really considered a semi--I am not sold that a semi is the best choice for the purpose but I do like semi's.

Just wondering William, have you looked at the ballistics of any rimfire at 200 yards? They are dropping like rocks past 150 yards, some even before.

No, I don't thing Browning makes a .22mag semi.
I may have said that along the way somewhere but I don't think they do.
The Smei's that have come into consideration--not really haeavily though, just a fun thought--are CZ and Remington.
I do have a little Browning Belgium that I bought for my grandson---I keep it warmed up for when he is ready--he is not two yet.

I remember Browning making the BAR II in 22LR and 22MAG. But you would have to find one used.
I think with any of the older 22 mag autos you are only going to getthem to work with 40 grain bullets.
The lighter 30 to 34 grain super velocity rounds don't make the recoil foot pounds to cycle the guns. One of the problems with the Ruger 10/22Mag.
A Bolt or T bolt is going to be your best bet for 200 yards. You will need the hyper velocity 30 to 34 grain super bullets to reach out that far.
I limit my 22 mags to about 150 yards. I own two 22 mags rifles. and both do well with the light bullets. What is one ragged hole at 50 yards kind of opens up at 100 yards and becomes a pattern at 150. 200 for me is a guess at a rabbit or ground squirrel. Maybe I can hit a 4th of july watermellon with either of my 22 mags at 200 yards, but not a center punch. For 200 yards a .223 gets broken out for varmints and soda cans.
But one of my friends favorite targets is a raw baking potato. The 22 mag or the 17 HMR will turn a baking potato with a good center hit into a white ball about 3 feet in diameter. The kids love them the 22LR can make them into a ball about a foot round most often it blows chunks off, but the 22 mag will evaporate them. Cheap biodegradable targets.

Yes Sir and another thing to realize is that a good bolt action is seldom called upon for a fast follow-up shot.

Congratulations. It has been some years but I have shot the Python in the .357...I can remember that action as being like oil on oil.

i really didn't know they made a 22mag auto. i went to 8 pawn shops last week never seen so much sh---t like a indoor flea market a lot of them don't have guns. found what i was looking for at the last one.to bad guns aren't like cattle -rabbits -horses you can't breed them and make a lot of money. or stud them out

My .22 Mag is sighted only for 100 yds but it does great there. I see 150 as my max and gotta fiqure a lot of drop for that. You wouldn't like mine since it's a CZ American, meaning a traditional bolt. I've tweated everything for it's favorite plain old Winchester 40 grains.

shot a dog at 100 yards not happy with the results. won't do that again ill use the 223 or 204 more humain.

I have had a mag in my collection since I was a kid. I feel that if you are going to include up to 200yrds, then a bolt will give you the accuracy you would need at that distance. Levers and auto's and pumps, would do well at closer range but to tweak the accuracy to the extreme, use all you can to do it. I think a CZ varmit HB would do you well.

and then Savage comes out with the m25 walking varmiter in 5.7 x 28, suddenly the .22mag doesnt look so good.

That must be a Ruger problem. My Remington 597M works perfectly with light bullets, heavy bullets, interchangable, without a hicup of any kind! It's never failed to feed/fire or work with anything i've fed it, even one time since i bought it several years ago.

Ruger has built some junk, well at least they are pulling some of their junk off the market. I see they now quit building/selling all of their shot guns too!
