Sturgeon Spearing
« on: February 12, 2012, 09:26:52 AM »
Just got back from spearing weekend up by Omro.  We didn't have an Upriver tag this season and the ice was kind of shakey in Winnebago, so we just ice fished.  But once again the size of the sturgeon that this system puts out is amazing.  This big girl was at one of the local bars and weighed in at 180lbs and was speared by a very excited woman!  What a beast!  Came through in 6 feet of water, I can't imagine what that must have been like.  Fish of a lifetime.

Fantastic eating!  Has a very similar texture to swordfish.  She probably has about 30 pounds of caviar in her also...

Everything ends up dead sometime.  Not sure why it's any more sad than if she washed ashore and rotted away....

Most of us end up there at one time or another here in Wisconsin.
My goal in life is to have a carbon footprint the size of Al Gore's. I can be living the good life and know I am not causing global warming. Make Al your carbon standard.
