new here have a ?

Hey my name is adam and im 26 years old. im gitting into the t/C . Looking to buy a original contender. My question is what exaclly does the full couger vs the half couger mean. is it years or models or what? i tried searching and couldnt find anything. thanks alot for anyones help

proud to be the first to say welcome aboard..its a wonderful place just loaded with wonderful people..enjoy your stay.  Not really sure what years had what cougar..some of the elders will touch on that I'm sure.

Welcome to the forum. I am new to Contenders myself. The full, pouncing cougar is on early Contenders and the Cougar face is on later produced frames. That is all I know, don't know dates and I do not know if they coincide with the mechanical changes or not (easier to open frame, switched firing pin, etc)

Not sure which style of frame you are talking about for sure so hope this helps when you say full or half cougar.
The original Contenders had "flatside" frames. To help with some frames getting little bubbles in them during the investment casting process T/C did not want to scrap them so they started to acid etch the sides of the frames. They played around with 2 etch patterns. The cougar/puma on a rock and eagle. Very few had the eagle on one side and the puma on the other. The puma then became the norm. When that happened they did frames between serial number 1800 to 16235 with the "Full Etch" which has etch pattern around the tail of the puma. The etch pattern then changed to the 3/4 etch which was void of the etch around the tail area.
Towards the end of the G1 or Original style of the Contender they then stopped the acid etching and went to the machine engraved snarling puma head only. This was available in stainless steel and blued frames.
