Gunsmith for Trigger Job
« on: January 29, 2012, 06:33:17 PM »
I've got a handi rifle in 35 whelen that I bought in October for use in the "primitive weapons" season here in Mississippi.  I got it a week before the season opener so I didn't have time to get it tuned up like I'd want to, just mounted the scope and loaded some ammo, sighted it in and went hunting.  This thing has what must be an 8-10 lb. trigger pull.  I managed to kill one doe right off with it but yesterday I missed a doe with it.  Knowing that it couldn't be me (just kidding), I'd like to blame it on the trigger.  Seriously though, it's very hard to shoot accurately with the trigger this heavy and It's been a while since I've missed a deer.  All my other rifles have worked over triggers in the 2.5-3# range and I'm used to them, this trigger is throwing me for a loop, it's got to be fixed before next season.

Does anyone know a DECENT gunsmith, hopefully in Mississippi, who can do a good trigger job on this rifle and get it into the 2.5-3# range?  If no one knows one in Mississippi I'm certainly willing to ship it off to have it done so I'd like to know of any guys nationwide who do good trigger work also.  I know several guys that call themselves gunsmiths, but I wouldn't trust them to mount a scope much less work on a trigger.  I've read the FAQ about how to do the trigger but I'm not interested in stoning sears and cutting springs myself, too involved and I have too many projects going already.  I just want to drop it off at the gunsmith or at the UPS place and write a check for it, then get it back with a good 2.5# trigger.

Thanks,

Gary

GaryCrow, Where you located at in Mississippi; if you are in the central MS area, Call Billy Tierce, 4050 Jack Rd., Utica, MS
 (601) 885-9297. He did mine back in '05 on my 45-70. Crisp #3 lb trigger. A lot of the gun shops around the Jackson area send firearms to him.

Also here's a link to MS gunowners forum with a sticky to several gunsmith around MS also. Good Luck

See Ilion's Trigger Policy in the FAQs, if it's that heavy it will only cost shipping for H&R to do the trigger adjustment.
