I am full of 1911's that have been projects.
I have two M28's, a 586, a M19, a M27, a 16-4, A M586 at Pinnacle for a sex change to shoot 9x23---the 16-4 will go to someone for a .327 ream.
The revolvers are not as project minded as the semi's---or am I wrong.
I need to do something with a gun.
I do have 2 M632's in .327 that I would like to fool around with but I have no thoughts.
Give me some ideas.

Are you looking to do the work your self or farm it out to a gun smith?
I can send you one or more of my projects to do if you're bored.
How are you on adding stocks to SXS shotguns?

What about building a gun from scratch.
1911 frames are abundant and Brownells has 30 pages or more of parts of 1911 and once you get it together send it out for some snazzy finish.
Wonder if you can make a 9X23 1911?

What is the difference between a 9x23 1911 and a .38 Super 1911? I thought they were the same. I bet he's got a bunch of .38 super 1911s.

First---I have no skills.
9x23 is a higher pressure round than a .38super--but you are correct they are about the same unless you wish to hot rod.
I am thinking that i would like to get some new stocks for the 632. 1 1/2 of my fingers fall off the butt. Now if I could get a sq. butt conversionwith a little more length that would be nice.
MC--you don't want me touching wood on a refinishing project and as far as a build from scratch, a Smith would have to do the work. I have done this on several with very pleasing results.

First, thank you for all of your discussion starters. I have appreciated your posts.

I don't know if you consider Thompson Contenders/Encores to be handguns (some consider them sawed off rifles), but I have enjoyed developing loads with mine. The long range accuracy that can by obtained is amazing and they are fun to hunt with. And, there a gazillion chamberings to mess with and no pro gunsmithing required. Just a thought.

Well that is a good consideration. It does not seem to grab me at the moment---though, in all honesty nothing seems to--except my desire.
I am a lost soul wallowing in a sea of desire that I can't put a finger on.

Heres a thought,,,,, with all the discussions that I have read here on GB's that were innitiated by you, have you ever considered writing a book?
I do admire the gift you have. I had a Psy. Prof. in college, his name was H. Iglehart, he could give a dissertation on almost any subject and keep it interesting, quite a gift, and you put me in rememberance of him. I had him for 3-4 classes.
He was a Prsb. Minister for 26 years, before his college career as a Prof.
wl, I understand that you said, something gun related, but?

It would be something to do.
Maybe a gun book or religion, history.

William,
Since you are a S&W fan, how about a quest for a Model 21 in 44 Special?
a new spring kit, new finnish and new stocks.
Find a Model 24 or 25 and make it a target model, send it back to S&W for a 5 or 6" barrel with the partridge target front sight, the .5 target hammer and the .4 target trigger. Then add the spring kits and hone the guts.

There is a very nice mod 21 for 645.00, IIRC, here in the local shop, used but very nice. I looked at it but it is bigger than I like for carry, 4" bbl. I think.

I figured a M21 or 24 as 44 Special is a mild accurate round that is a joy to shoot especally out of an N frame.
The 57 is a 41 mag and a little but of a wrist twister.
But if you like 41 then search out a M58 the fixed sight version. A 3or 4" version of the 58 in 41 mag would be a great carry gun. No sights to snag like an over sized M13.

Rebarrel a Ruger Super Redhawk to 16" in a 454, Have a thumbhole Kevlar or Rinite stock made to replace the grips. You have a 30" double action revolving carbine. Or you could get one of those Chiappa Rhino's in 40 S&W and convert it to Colt 38-40.

I keep going back to an AR for some strange reasoning---but I can't quiet get enough interest to make it happen.
I am quietly ressurecting sending the BBQ .38 super off to S&W to have it engraved as was the original purpose of the gun until I got caught up with that scallawag in Rusk and soured on the deal.

Get a custom SA revolver , say 5 inch bbl , wedding ring, horn grips , complete action job , good bbl. and in a cal. that catches your fancy.

Mine came out nice. Took about 8 hours to clean though. Coated of yack fat.

OK William,
What about going to the Hobby shop and finding the ugglest used battered 22 rifle they have.
Take it home find a blown up diagram of the rifle on line and see if you can find take down instructions.
Lay out an old sheet on the work bench. And tear the rifle down. Take every part out and dump it in a bucket with degreaser. METAL only, the palstic will disappear.
Clean and scrub each of those parts and with the blank barrel and action take it out and paint it a flat black, taping the holes and other parts you do not want paint on. Stick the screws and other parts on a piece of cardboard and paint them as well. Let it dry. If you have some drips sand them and re paint.
Sand the stock and Paint it a flat brown. Or add a coat of varnish. With the parts clean reassemble the rifle. Take it to th range or back 40 and test it. Find some kid that wants to shoot, grandkid, neighbor, kid that mows the lawn, and let them shoot it. Or better do the project with them. Let them build their own gun. See how it works and know they can tear it apart and put it back together again. It would be a good weekend project for the two of you. You are never going to get better at sanding and painting then by doing it. If it trurns out ugly, well it started that way. Leave it in the barn for pests.

Here is the Marlim M60 I did that very thing to.
When it wouldn't stain for any amount of work I painted it Candi-Apple.
It shoots so good it is scary.

Here is the one I really would like to complete by having it engraved.
I have shown it before and the actual build project was fun and very satisfying---the engraving effort was less than so--it stayed at an engravers house for a year without being touched,
It is a Colt .38super frame and a no roll marks Caspian slide----it would look good gussied up with a S&W premium blueing.

Here is the 16-4 that will be going off to have a .326 penial enlargement done to it--this spring.
It has Target paridge sights, hammer and trigger---this will be a Hammerdown cousin/takeoff/duplication. I am going to like shooting this feller.
