How to change Valmet 412 from ejector to extractor?
« on: January 13, 2012, 07:47:35 AM »
I have a Valmet 412 with shotgun barrels. I picked up a couple of 4Tenner inserts but they want work with the ejectors. Does anyone know how to convert them? My rifle barrel has extractors and the guy I bought it from sent the springs to convert it so I figure it must be doable. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Bill

I'm sure it is doable because the guy who owned my Savage/Valmet 333 Skeet before me DID it, along with several alterations that were in my opinion very questionable.  The only good thing about them was they made the gun available at a "parts gun" price.  But reversing them has been a pain.

Personally I wouldn't get into this just to get the gun to shoot .410s easily.  It may be hard to "unfix".  Ejectors are notoriously hard to "time" in some guns.  I don't know that about Valmets, but since I just found replacement ejector springs for the 333, I'm about to find out.....

You can NOT convert an 412 extractor bbl. set to ejectors, UNLESS it was an ejector bbl. set to begin and someone took the springs out or did something else out to disable the ejectors.

DM,

Ok so there are either ejector or extractor barrels. An ejector barrel can be converted to ejector by removing the springs. An extractor barrel set cannot be converted to ejector. Is that correct?

The big question then is how do you remove the springs? My 9.3x74r barrels came with springs to convert back to ejector but the guy said it through the brass so far I wouldn't want to do it.

Thanks for your help.

I corrected your quote, and then it's right.  You don't have to remove the springs from an ejector bbl. to make it just "extract", so i have no idea what someone has done to your's or how to make it whole again.

OK DM now I am confused again. I thought you said to convert an ejector gun to extractor just remove the springs. Then you said you don't have to remove the springs. Is there a switch or something that will change it? Sorry if I am slow, as you can see by the delay in my response, I'mkind of busy right now. Please let me know.
Thanks,
Bill R.

Actually, YOU said the springs were removed to change it into an extractor bbl. set, i'm saying you don't have to pull the springs to change it over to extractor.

I'm also saying you CANNOT convert a bbl. set that's "extractor" from the factory, to "ejector", by adding springs.
