M700 Mountain rifle .260 Rem
« on: January 18, 2004, 06:05:34 AM »
I am contemplating purchasing a Remington m700 Stainless Mountain Rifle in .260 Rem.  Primary use will be deer and Javelina hunting in Southwest.  I normally like Rugers, but the only lightweight 260 they have is in the compact rifle, and I dont like the super short barrel.  Anyone have any experience with the M700 Mountain rifle and its performance and durability.  I really like how it handles, it has nice balance.  would appreciate any info. Thanks

I have one in 280, it kills like lightning bolts..  Have had zero trouble with it..  3x9 Leupold Compact in leupold mounts.  Works fine..

I have two of the LSS Mtn. Rifles in .30-06 and 7-08. Love them. You'll not go wrong with it.

I have the standard version Mountain Rifle in 25-06 (a caliber no longer chambered in this rifle).  One word describes it...superb (once you have the trigger adjusted to 3# of pull).  Mine shoots .5 MOA from the bench at 100 yards with reloads.  The Mtn is a treat to carry when you still hunt all day and it is very pointable.  I like the slim stock and 22" barrel over the Remington Model 7.   From a subjective viewpoint, I prefer the Mountain stainless version over the standard version.  However, the stainless is not available with a detachable magazine and that is a feature I prefer.  I have also had the same rifle some years back in 30-06 but it was too much cartridge for such a light rifle (recoil - big time).

IMO, a Remington Mountain Rifle in 260 or 7mm-08 would be an ideal deer rifle for you.

I bought a m700 LSS Mtn Rifle in 260 2 summers ago, very nice rifle.  :blaster:   Shot very well, under an inch with 120 gr. NBT's.  I've killed 3 deer with this rifle, it is very leathal.     260 seems to kill as fast as my ol 7mm Rem Mag did.   You will not be dissapointed!  8)

My 15 yr old son has the LSS Mountain in 7m-08.  Really a nice little rifle.  Had a trigger job done and it is a very good shooter.  No problems last year with whitetail and antelope.  It is a very good choice in a rifle.
