I have one in .308 and it shoots about a dime size group at 100 yards.

My 77 MKII's in 7mm Rem Mag and 300 WSM will both keep a three shot group around an inch at 100 yds.

Define accurate.

My Hawkeye 30-06 shoots 150gr Corelokts into about a 1.5" group, which is nothing stellar, but it's also the only ammo I've tried.  I will at some point try handloading some Sierra ProHunters and Winchester PowerPoints, but after killing 4 deer and a hog with it this season, I really don't see much reason to fool with it.

I've got a Hawkeye in 375 Ruger as well, and although I haven't sighted it in yet, reports from other shooters indicate that a 1" group with Hornady 270gr Superformance is standard.

I'd heard the same about inaccuracy, but in the context of the 77/44 which is what I was interested in, which may be due to the slower twist as compared to other rifles in the same caliber, etc.

I'm guessing with .243 you're hunting deer inside 200 yds? How big is the deer's heart, like 4"? Even 2xMOA will get you that at 200yds.

They are just like every gun company.  Some shoot and some don't.  Mine in 270 wouldn't shoot federal premiums.  Switched to winchester silver box power points and it shoots .75" at 100 yards.

I have 3 Ruger No. 1's, 2 M77's and 1 Hawkeye. All shot a MOA 1.25 out of the box with factory ammo.
After a little trigger work and with handloads all are MOA or better rifles.

Ive got two hawkeyes a 264 and 7 mag and both shoot well. From what ive heard most do. The poor shooting rugers is more of a thing with the older tang safety guns.

I've got three tang safety Rugers. One in .243, a 25-06 and a .308. I'm a reloader and all three of these tang safety rifles are sub-MOA shooters. The old tang safetys are my favorite bolt actions.

I have 6 of them.  .22 mag, .243, .260, .270, and 2X 30-06's, and all shoot great.  My .243 is a one holer and does great with IMR 4350 and 90 to 100 grain bullets, have shot a deer and a couple coyotes with it.  All of mine are MKII's, and all are stainless except one of the -06's.  You shouldn't have any trouble.  The big thing is the factory trigger pull is pretty stiff.  Either replace the trigger with an aftermarket or get someone to rework it for you, and be sure you tighten the screws between the stock and action per Rugers recommendation.  Real tight up front, pretty tight in the back, and just barely getting tight for the middle one.  It helps groups a bunch and makes it more consistent between shots.

I have 2 tang safety guns One a 308 and the other a 30-06. (yea I know same gun for the most part) one was a gift from Dad and the other was a purchase to help a buddy)
Both are great rifles.  As long as I am not shooting Military FMJ ammo out of eaither the guns are great.  For some reason they do not like the FMJ heat crimped military stuff.  Anything with a soft point and they are going to out shoot me.  Since there are no 243 Military FMJ loads you should be good.  Make sure the scope is tight.

My very first rifle was a Ruger M77 in .270 Winchester. With handloads, the best that I could ever get out of that gun was 3/4 inch at 100 yards, day in and day out it was more like 1"-1 1/4" groupings. I used to have a Remington M700 in the same calibre with a floated barrel and it was a solid one-holer at 100 yards. For some reason I sold that old Remington and still have the Ruger.

It depends on how you define accurate.  I won't own a boltgun that won't stay under 1" at 100 yards.  I don't buy Ruger boltguns anymore.

triggers are much better on the two hawkeyes then the typical ruger ive owned. Ive all but given up on tang safety rugers. I love the way they look and do like the safety but its just to much pot luck finding one that shoots well and ive had a bunch of them through the years to base this statement on.

I've got experience with 2 tang safety rugers.  A lightweight 308 that shoots right at an inch with handloads and a 280 that shoots around 3/4" with the load it likes.  My 280 is not a shooter with the loads it doesn't like.  I have found that tightening the action screws properly on a 77 is important for accuracy.

With Rugers torque the front action screw to 55- 65 in/lb, the rear to 40- 50 in/lb, and the center screw just tight enough to keep it in,  not more than 15 in/lb (I loctite mine). Ruger says to torque the front screw to 95 in/lb BUT they don't tell you the stock may crack! My son had a 77 MKII stainless 280 and it was a tack driver and my .243 shoots 1" 3 shot groups with Remington 100gr corelokt factory ammo.

When I sighted my 77 Ultra Light .243 in last year with Rem. 100 gr. Corelokts, I shot a 7/8" group.  The problem with the Ultra Light is that the groups will open up if I don't let the barrel cool down due to the very thin barrel.  A friend had a .308 that consistantly shot under 3/4"
