strange one at the gun shop
« on: December 29, 2011, 11:04:03 AM »
I noticed a used 20ga youth NEF today that was unusual (to me) in that the frame was polished and blued like a rifle frame. It was wearing grey laminate straight-grip stocks drilled for sling swivels and had a factory recoil pad. NN prefix.
I didn't think to look and see if the firing pin looked big or small, and I'm sure this shop wouldn't let me remove the buttstock to check the frame. I'm wondering if this may be a rifle frame. Any guesses? I was hoping it may have been a combo gun at one time that got split up.

That would probably be a fairly good bet.  I think the inside of the frame under the barrel behind the hinge pin looks smoother on a SB2 frame also.  Call H&R with the SN and ask what barrels can be fit to it.  Larry
A gun is just like a parachute, if you ever really need one, nothing else will do.

If the price is right it would be worth the gamble.

Worst case you would be limited to a couple pistol calibers.
My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

+1 what trotterlg said, I would be willing to take a chance and buy it, especially if the price for the gun was in the shotgun range.  If it turns out to be a SB2 frame your ahead of the game.  You can also check the FAQs regarding the differences, other than looking at the back of the receiver.

But, the best way to check is to call H&R with the serial number.

When you allow a lie to go unchallenged, it becomes the truth.

My quandary, I personally, don't think I have enough Handi's but, I know I have more Handi's than I really need or should have.

+1, NN=1999 the cutoff year for rifle barrels is now 2000, the accessory barrel page has been updated, must be made 2000 or later for rifle barrels.
